Hello everyone, I've been reading this forum for a little over a week now.
I'm trying to decide between the DV2000 and the DV6000 series laptops. Both are very nice and can be comparably equiped. My main concern is the screen.
I haven't read any reports on disappointing screens on the DV6000, whether they were from SEC or not. But I would prefer a smaller laptop.
So the question I need help with is, should I pick the DV6000 for the peace of mind of having a decent screen regardless of the manufacturer, or should I go for the DV2000 and hope that I get something decent?
Thanks for any input ^.^

Well I have a DV2000T, with a SEC screen, and I must stay it is very good. There is a little light leakeage along the bottom but that is it. Otherwise the contrst, and colors are all very good. The brightness is good as well. They might have steppen up the quality of the SEC screens, who knows?

You have 21 days from receiving date to exchange or refund. I would pick the DV2000T because its smaller and the resolution is same comparing to the DV6000T. Now if they DV6000 had 1650x1050 then that will be a different story. My cousin has the SEC and I have the LPL....slight differences but nothing majorly bad with the SEC.

Or you can buy at Costco in which case you'll have six months to return it.

Haha, thanks everyone for your input, I'll definately go for the DV2000T.
=D
And I'll get it at Costco... ^^;; -
the dv2000 is very portable and light. that 1 1/2 inch difference in screen size is huge in terms of size and weight. the dv6000 with 15.4" screen is pretty heavy with larger AC adapater and more of a desktop replacement.

My main concern was the screen quality, I don't really want to have to send it back over and over again like some others have mentioned on the forum in order to get a decent screen ^^;;

I really wanted a lighter computer, as I travel frequently. The dv2000t is amazinly lightweight, and the screen size is perfect for me.
It's also be very stable and dependable. I've used it on numerous trips, in flight, watching movies and/or working.
I doubt you'll be sorry, but as someone else recommended, if you can, get it from Costco so you have a full six months to make up your mind.
After six months, you should know if it's what you want and meets your needs.
I really feel HP has done an excellent job of coming out with a consumer laptop that is durable, elegant looking and should hold up well (not show scratches, won't have paint wear off, as I've heard some Dell laptops do, etc.) -
I agree, I have been checking HP laptops out at retail stores such as Best Buy and Fry's Electronics. They seem to be very well constructed.
My previous laptop was a Sager 3880, and it lasted for a little over a year with frequent visits to their City of Industry location for minor repairs such as a replacement invertor for the LCD and freezing issues. I don't plan on getting another Sager again due to their horrible tech support. I have never talked to a tech support agent when I call on a whim, the only way I can talk to anyone is if I were to call their sales department and transfer me. =\ -
I think I may have been the "someone' who was referring people to www.Costco.com as "the" place to buy an HP.
Buying thru Costco gives you a 180 day, NO Hassle, No need to box it back up , ship it off and wait, fight to get the charged-back credited back to your credit card, Or fight over re-stocking fees, etc type refund...
Take it back to ANY Costco store, and you get ALL your money back, on the spot in minutes. ...
Just a FYI people, when returning to COSTO, make SURE to STATE there IS a PROBLEM with the unit so Costco gets a full credit back from HP.
If you "use" it for 6 months and "return" it... and there's nothing "wrong" with it, it's marked re-saleable... and it's sold off to a SALVAGE company for like 30 cents on the dollar which means Costco is taking a HUGE loss on each unit returned.... (at least in my area.)
(I think Costco gets their money back on an item that nothing's wrong with ONLY for like 21 -30? days past the org sale date... after that point Costco takes the loss... if the item is "re-saleable".)
Some Costco's "may" sell items that are re-saleable" in a special mark down section, but don't expect to find one at 30% of the orginal selling price as the SALVAGE company gets that price because they take ALL their returns, the good, bad, and the ugly so to speak. -
