    Hi,

I bought a Hewlett-Packard G3000EA notebook several years ago. Last year I decided to try Ubuntu Linux on it ... and now I'm trying to turn it into a CarPC, so after nuking the HDD a couple of times to get it wiped clean and reseting the BIOS, I finally got Windows XP Professional SP2 installed on it. But it wasn't the OEM version that came pre-installed in the laptop so a few drivers were missing, among them, the Conexant High Definition sound drivers. I proceeded to the driver and software part of the HP.com website and downloaded the recommended drivers for my laptop; Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio, Conexant High Definition Audio Drive and Conexant Audio Driver (32bit).

When I got them all installed the audio was finally working. However, the sound is very choppy, as if all the audio files would be partially damaged/corrupt and videos also get lagged up by it.

I'm wondering what could be the problem? The drivers are supposed to be the correct ones. Here are some links to the specific drivers ...

    Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA)
    Conexant High Definition Audio Drive
    Conexant Audio Driver (32bit)

Rest of the drivers for the HP G3000EA

And as I said, I'm using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 without any additional updates. These should work either way, since my previous Windows install was rarely updated, it wasn't even the Pro version, and did not have Service Pack 2.

Anyway, do you guys have any suggestions on how to fix this audio problem of mine? Anything else you need to know to get a better picture of the situation?

I need to get this fixed. Playing music, DVD's and other multimedia is an integral part of the whole CarPC, so it needs to be working flawlessly.

    Cheers
