I was looking for a DV5T-1000 thread as I just ordered this laptop and want to install a fresh copy of either Vista 64-bit or Vista-32 bit, I don't care although the laptop came with 4 Gig and I know to see all 4, I need 64.

Either way, I found an older thread for XP drivers and I also know it depends on what hardware you system has, so unless someone can point me to a thread, I'm looking for the LATEST drivers and to make sure I am not missing any.

I will probably have a guy from work help me since I'm not the techiest but I'll need to tell him what to do :p (we're good at that, right? :p)

Here is what mine is coming with and I tried to assemble my best guess at drivers. The HP site helps a bit but many drivers seem older and I'm not sure I need all of them of course.

    Thanks in advance!

    System
    • Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 w/ 4Gig
    • 250GB 7200 RPM SATA drive
    • NVidia 9600M GT
    • Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N with Bluetooth
    • SuperMulti 8x DVD w/DL support
    • Webcam (no fingerprint reader)
    • 12-Cell battery

Of course before I would rebuild it, I will check device manager and take screenshots, etc. so I know what I had before the process and make sure I end up in the same place, but I thought I'd check with you guys.

Choosing your OS option in your first link will give you all your drivers you need apart from getting the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia, you seem to be up to speed and not needing help from anyone.

You might try checking out this sticky for any our sites that might interest you HP/Compaq info thread **Please read before posting**.

SPQR: Yeah, I read all the links in that thread before I posted. Nothing useful for what I need.

Dannyres: I didn't see your post as it came in while I was typing/reviewing something so thanks! When I click on it, it takes me to the general listing of threads in the HP Notebook Manufacturers forum. Is it supposed to go to a specific thread?

Was it meant to be this one?
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874

EDIT: Dannyres, I'm assuming that was the thread you intended and that was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!!! (and your thread really should be stickied, I'll bump it).

So I do have a couple specific questions based on what you wrote, and I'm assuming once I get my laptop in a few days, it will be very clear via device manager what I have vs. the order slip.

    But:

    1) Is ENE CIR driver for the TV remote infrared thingy or according to HP's driver site (which is why I hate using it) it is for "Speeds up the time it takes to resume from Sleep or Standby mode" but I'm assuming that means the sleep/standby for the infrared, not the laptop as a whole?

    2) I'm guessing Device Manager will show me, but which version (WiFi Link 5100 / Intel WiFi Link 5300) is the "INTEL NEXT-GEN WIRELESS-N WITH BLUETOOTH"?

    3) Should you still install Intel Graphics Media Accelerator if you have an addon card like the 9600M? I'm guessing yes? I remember one of the 'features' of Mentevino was that you can switch on the fly to the onboard graphics card to save power when just browsing, etc. but I don't know if HP implemented this...

    4) I'm usually scared messing witht he BIOS unless I really need to, but if my laptop isn't on F.11 A, do you advise upgrading?

    Thanks!

After checking the above threads/links, I'd download DriverMax and then run that every so often. It prolly won't catch everything, but it'd be a good utility to keep handy IMO :)

Whoops yes I must have copy pasted the wrong link but I'm glad you found it. :) For your question 1 it seems to be blank at the moment..

Programs like DriverMax are usually pretty poor at finding you the best/latest drivers. You're always best to get them yourself if you have the time/motivation. :)

    Thanks Danny, you helped!

One clarification. You mentioned that "...The Next-Gen Intel is the Intel WiFi 5100 but with the options that have "with bluetooth" HP actually adds in another bluetooth card made by Broadcom. So their site is actually a little deceiving, its not an all-in-one card..."

    1) So if my invoice says "INTEL NEXT-GEN WIRELESS-N WITH BLUETOOTH", does that mean I need:

    a) Intel WiFi Link 5100 / Intel WiFi Link 5300 driver + Broadcom Wireless LAN
    -or-
    b) Intel WiFi Link 5100 / Intel WiFi Link 5300 driver + Bluetooth
(note: these are the names of the driver headings from your post)

    AND

    2) So I understand now why the ENE CIR driver is used, and although I didn't order a TV tuner remote, since as you mention, all DV5T's still come with the IR sensor, then I should install this driver as well?

    Thanks again!

It's number 2. Broadcom Wireless LAN is just if you choose the Wireless G option rather than the Intel Next-Gen option :)
