So I've installed an SSD in my DV6z. First thing of note is that it seemed to take FOREVER in between screens (i.e. type name, password, etc), and also the video performance check took forever. But alas, it eventually got there.

Installed drivers from SWSetup folder, so far so good.

But one issue I have is with the power options. I installed the HP Care Assistant, Update Manager, and HP Power Manager, but I can only switch power profiles with the HP power manager, and not through Windows, so I can't tune the power profile as desired.

Anyone know how to get that to work? Am I missing something else?

Also, should you be able to use the recovery media on any hard drive or SSD? I tried to do it on my SSD but during restore it gave me something like a can't write file error. I got recovery DVD's with my laptop (although I didn't order them), and used those and haven't made the ones you make yourself yet. From an Envy 14 I had there was an option for a "basic" install or something like that, that didn't install all the other crap, but didn't see that option. Does it exist and how do I do it?

Nevermind, the HP stuff on a clean install breaks stuff. Just go without any HP apps and you'll be fine!

yeah i was going to say, when i installed everything on the ssd i had issues with the HP power manager not allowing me to use high performance settings. the only hp software worth keeping is the coolsense software so you can make sure its set to performance optimized and maybe the support assistant

Don't you need the support assistant to use coolsense?
