I was just wondering about a couple of things since people started getting the free upgrade disks for Windows 7.
1. Can you use the media to perform clean install?
2. If not can you use the Key with another Media? Retail or OEM?
3. How will the activation process fall into place?
I know some tweaking will have to be involved to get it to work.
I got my upgrade kit for one of the laptops I have already but I haven't had time at all to play with them. Anyone tried anything yet?

Hello guys,
I downloaded the 32 bit win7 pro version from Microsoft update for students. At first It let me download a download manager and the manager downloaded 3 files (setup1.box, setup2.box and Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86) (2.24gb)
After that I run the Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86 and it made a folder named expandedSetup which includes setup.exe and other files. (2.34gb)
I burned these files on to a dvd, so it became just like a clean install win7 dvd. But the problem is, it is not bootable??? How can I make it bootable? my dvd burner software is asking for an iso file to make a bootable dvd...
will it work like this, or the only way is to run it while I am on vista??? -
ive installed windows 7 but not through the media disk, but i will say that the Key does work on another windows 7. downloaded it like cwunch but there were instructions to make it bootable.
if u do a clean install it will activate during installation, windows 7 while installing will try to connect to the internet if not you can activate it AFTER the install is complete. -
hey cwunch, i tink the steps to convert win 7 to a bootable disc is a complete hassle. if u really cant get it to work, try downloading this instead:
