    Hey everyone,

Well, I have been having some issues recently (last couple of days) with the fan noise and heat coming out of the left vent on my 8510p. I'm thinking about opening this thing up and cleaning it out. The fan and the heat blowing out the vents is pretty bad...I pretty much am running it on power saving mode just to drop the fan speed. If I am not playing music or watching a video, it gets pretty distracting.

Its only been about 6 weeks since I've bought it so I am a bit surprised that I am having this type of issue. At the same time though, I do live in a university student house that does get dusty, so I am hoping its just dust buildup or something.

Anyway, anybody open this thing up yet? Any idea of the best way to access the vents and fan? Unfortunately I don't think I'll have time to do it over the next week or so because I am insanely busy with school.

    Thanks for the help!

Destiny had his (?) 8510p opened up by a repair person. Here's a link to the pics: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=191694
Maybe if you remove the keyboard you might have enough access to clean it. However, I wouldn't really bother doing so. It's normal for the fan to be on almost always. For some reason HP has the fans kick in when the HD goes above 30, which it usually is.

make sure you hold the fan while using compressed air, because otherwise, you could damage the fan motor

Yeah unfortunately HP has basically told us the fan is going to stay on 24/7, no matter how quiet, and they're not turning it off. Very annoying IMO, almost as much as the potential (?) bios lock on OCing the HD 2600.

Thus we're probably going to see more dust build up than other laptops where the fan can shut off. Disappointing but oh well :\

That's good to know. I've been concerned that perhaps my 8510p was running too hot and that was the reason for the constantly running fan.

Yeah I know. Can't stand the attitude of HP's engineers who seem pretty Godlike by imposing their beliefs on all their customers. The temperature thresholds are too conservative and if they even look at their competitors (Dell and Lenovo), they'd realise that this isn't the standard. It's not like HP's break down less than their competitors anyway, so why bother with setting more conservative thresholds.

I totally agree Chrixx...my CPU and HDD temps are down into the twenties, and my GPU sits at 45 right now...but the fan won't turn off? Come on!

If I had more technical know how I'd be tempted to manually disable the fan or something to see how the system operates without it :|
