My Fujitsu 80gb hard drive is clicking in my DV2000t, it is only a little over a week old. The clicking is when the hard drive seems to be idle, maybe still spinning but not really seeking for anything. I hear the click about every 3 seconds and at the same time the HDD LED lights up. I have had clicking in harddrives before and it usually doesn't mean good things. I'll call HP tomorrow, this sucks.

The nickname is "click of death."

So, yeah, it's generally not a good thing.

    Good luck.

Fujitsu has a HDD diagnostic program on their website here. If you want to thoroughly test the drive, SpinRite is the best there is but it's a bit expensive.

Thanks for the links brainstretch. I downloaded the Fujitsu program and it can't find a hard drive! Sounds good huh? Obviously it is still working, because I am in windows now and typing this, but for how long?

Going to call HP in a few minutes.

Hmm... I suspect the Fujitsu program isn't smart enough to see the SATA drive in your Intel chipset notebook, similar to how WinXP requires additional SATA drivers when you do a fresh install (the dv2000z with its nVidia chipset doesn't have this problem). I vaguely recall a BIOS setting that you can tweak to get around this problem...?

Ah yeah, you are probably right, I could disable SATA in the bios, and will actually try that. Thanks fo the reminder. There is a hard drive testing utility in the BIOS when I was just in there but it said it was going to take over an hour, I'll try that after I do the Fujitsu utility.

EDIT: I disabled sata in the bios and rebooted a couple timesa nd eahc time tried the Fujitsu program, but each time it didn't recognise it. The clicking hasn't resurfaced though...so yeah. I still have a few days that I could get a refund, I have some thinking to do.
