Hi. I came upon a crazy idea the other day - what if I ordered a brand new clickpad from HP Parts store which would be used in one of the future HP laptops? (Not right now). Do You think it would be possible to replace the one we use in Envy 14s with the new one? After all, motherboard connection will be the same (99% sure), and clickpad size is roughly the same in all laptops, from 14 to 17 inches. Of course we would need all of the dimensions to stay the same, but I believe it's not impossible.

If all of the connections match up then in theory it will work with the right drivers.

there's also the "oh right...the bios says no" factor to deal with but yeah.

If it fits and the connectors match, in theory it will work

Have any HP laptops with the new clickpad already been anounnced? Will the new Pavilions still sport the old, Envy-like one?

not sure. Think they still use the old one. I know the new envy 17 SB and SB-3D still use the old one.

I think there will be some major hardware differences

    1. Button will probably be in the center
    2. Possibly more mounting points
    3. More springy hinges around the edge to create a uniform clicking pressure
    4. Different size, probably.

Honestly, I Don't have an issue with this track pad, so I don't see why you should change it. However, if you can get us the specs, I'm sure we can compare the two using the parts guide for the current generation of envys.
