    Hi,

Is it possible to control the clock speed on a compaq V5004 ? I couldn't do it with speed fan but maybe something else can do it.

    Thanks for any information

if you are running vista you can easily limit the maximum processor clock speed with the help of power plan options
go to start menu>>type power options>>choose ur current power plan>>change plan settings>>change advanced power settings>>scroll down to see processor power management>>change the maximum value to the max % of rated clock speed you want to go

the minimum state sets the processor in this state even if its idle

I'm using xp, I'f like to change the fsb to a lower value to have less fan noise..

i think speed switch xp will do the job download it from
    http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/

before you embark on it try something analogous to the above mentioned power tweaking in xp. i think that there will surely be an option to downclock the processor in xp itself (cant tell u exactly as my desktop is not with me right now)

I have tried switch xp and nhc also, they are interresting as they alloy to run the cpu at a lower frequence (you can choose between low frequency, highfrequency and speedstep) which is good already, but don't allow to change the fsb ..

I believe changing the fsb requieres to know what clock generator is on the motherboard..

the fsb and the CPU internal clock are connected by a factor called multiplier. so if you change your clock speed it should directly affect the FSB. so what is the need of going for a separate change in FSB ??. for changing multiplier value you will need some good overclocking programs

My sempron run most of the time already with the minnimum multiplier (4 , the speed is 800 Mhz so the FSB must be 200 Mhz). At this speed, I still have some fan noises, so I'd like to experiment with lowering the FSB.

Some overclocking programs allows to play with these values, but to modify the FSB, my understanding is that the program needs to know the name of the chip called "clock generator", which is what I'm looking for now, as well as a program that can manage this particular chip.
