Hi all,
I received my V5000Z yesterday, but I have a little problem: Call of Duty 2 runs really slow, like 30 fps or less slow.
Here are the specs:
1.8 GHZ Turion
128 MB ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
1.25 GB DDR RAM (PC3200 400 MHZ)
80 GB 5400 RPM
Updated all the graphics card drivers (both omega and ATi) and DirectX. Also put the settings on pretty low and it didn't really help much.
Did I miss anything?

Do you have it set to DX7? The games gonna run like crap anyway because of the Xpress 200M. But lf you set it in the settings to run on DirectX 7 instead of 9 you'll have it run alot better.

Yes, I used DX7.
I chose a lower resolution which seems to help a little, but I'd still love 60 FPS on 800 x 600. -
You can actually see a difference between 30 and 60 FPS? Wow, you must have good eyes. They say that the human eye stops caring how fast the image is going past something like 25 FPS. Heck, television is only 30! I don't have much experience with COD2, so I don't know what you really need to run it well (and my opinions could be entirely wrong because of this, so don't get mad at me), but I can run a resources-intensive game like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 on my V5000Z at 30-35 FPS at the full 1280x800 resolution.
But yeah, like Unreal said, the Xpress 200M is not designed for games. Runs most of them ok, but not anything near a dedicated desktop card or something can do.
Also, the Turion is an exellent CPU. Mine's 2.2 instead of 1.8, so that may be why I can run stuff better. But other than that, my 5000 sounds identical to yours.
Sorry for rambling, but I just think you're trying to count too many chickens. Be happy that it runs period, at least you don't have an Intel GMA 950, then where would you be! -
Hi Andrew,
You are correct there are 60 frames per second on a tv in an odd line interlace configuration. It takes 2 frames to make a picture. there are 30 pictures per second. Vertical scan rate is 60 hz, horizontal is 15750 hz. This is a conventional US standard tv broadcast. The perisitance of the phospherous on the screen is 1/30 of a second. this allows both halves of the picture to "appear" together. The eye can only perceive 15 to 25 transistions per second. This is why even though we are seeing a series of pictures it appears to us as smooth motion. -
The x200 card will not be able to play CoD2 very good since it uses system ram and is not designed for highly intensive graphics games.
Sorry,

I thought the x200 had some dedicated memory but was also capable of up to 128MB when sharing system memory. Correct me if I am wrong.
