Some new HP notebooks have popped up in the HP support portals (see second post for a more complete list). This may confirm the new models that were speculated to begin production. :D (This may also explain why there were so many price discounts on existing models from the HP website.)

Please browse through this thread for details on the new notebook and netbook lineups that HP will be offering.

Thoughts? Comments? Feelings about wanting (or not wanting) these notebooks? Please feel free to post.

Edit 09/28/2009: The HP Winter 2009/2010 catalog has been leaked by Engadget which showcases the new lineups coming soon -- http://www.engadget.com/photos/hps-leaked-winter-2009-2010-catalog/

From Final Words, Anandtech Review, Feb 2009
    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3513&p=1

“The 32nm Clarkdale/Arrandale parts arriving by the end of this year really means one very important thing: the time to buy a new notebook will be either in Q4 2009 or Q1 2010. A 2-core, 4-thread 32nm Westmere derivative is not only going to put current Penryn cores to shame, it’s going to be extremely power efficient. In its briefing yesterday, Intel mentioned that while Clarkdale/Arrandale clock speeds and TDPs would be similar to what we have today, you’ll be getting much more performance. Seeing what we’ve seen thus far with Nehalem, I’d say a 2-core, 32nm version in a notebook is going to be reason enough for you to want to upgrade”.

First notebook previews should be….. interesting !!

Very interesting... 8440w? Possibly a 14" workstation? Engineering college students would really like that...

Based on HP's current product line up (and what they currently lack in comparison to Dell's current offerings), I'm going to guess that the dm1 and dm3 models will be 11" and a 13" ultra-thin models without an integrated optical drive, and the tm2 will be a 12" touchscreen tablet like the tx2 but without an optical drive.

if they launch the ##4# series notebooks until the end of the year or a bit later and only put the mobility radeon 4-series gpus inside, that would be the worst FAIL imaginable, since the 5-series come out in september, shipping till end october, and the whole 5-series is announced to be launched at the beginning, ie. all classes, as well as the mobility gpus.

so please, hp, give the ##4#p models ( 8540p mainly; 8540w/8740w the workstation gpus respectively) the rv840/870 gpus, best the redwood (mainstream/performance) class as standard, and optionable juniper/cypress (performance/high-end) for the high-end ones, as well as core 2 quad and i7 cpus, respectively.

Does it appear that there will be a replacement for the DV4T, or another 14" model similar to the DV4? That 14" screen (16:10) size is pretty much perfect for me. Heck, I'd have already bought the DV4T if they still had the LED screen available.

Ya, I was bummed I didn't see anything about a 14" model. I've been waiting for them to update the 14" models for like two years now. I hope they can figure out how to make a nice 14" laptop run without it's HDD pushing 50C at idle.

I had posted a few weeks ago about an article stating that vendors in Taiwan got a ton of orders from HP for new notebooks and that they should be hitting at the end of August or early September, so these just might be hitting any day now...

I'm hoping the HP entry into the mega-netbook field of 11.6 inch screen models will have all of the goodies that Dell and Acer almost came up with. Seems like Dell's 11Z has a really unpopular touchpad and someone was questionning the construction and overall quality of the Acer 1410 despite its good array of features. You can't please everybody, but I'd sure like to get excited about somebody's new netbook and not lose it when I read the reviews.

First, let's introduce myself a little :) . Some of the dutch guys around here would recognize me as the moderator on the ducth forum gathering of tweakers. Thanks to Phil i've been watching the forums here lately. I also am the founder of the dutch site http://notebookspot.nl.

First of all I want to thank Phil for sharing this exclusive news. Also, ofcourse, I want to thank all of you for discovering this news and sharing details. :)

The dm1 looks gorgeous to me. Much culv-notebook for just 480 euros. At theis moment, it's a better deal compared to the Acer 1810T/1410, but those will get an upgrade as well. Sad that there aren't any details on the graphics chip at this moment. The dv8 also looks cool for it's price, a shame that it is so huge...

So, my site is dutch (tho I will start writing in English in the future (but not the very near...), just ask me if the translations aren't clear :)

    Welcome :)

It will have the same 4500MHD like every other CULV device in that price range, because it's the cheapest solution to buy that CPU/Chipset bundle from Intel.

Think so indeed. Tho, it would be interesting if the dm3 had better specs like a HD4330 that also comes with some Acers. As well, the dv2 has a HD3410 in some models.

Then, for the culv's I don't really care bout the specs, but it is sad we don't know what graphics powerhouse the dv8 has.

The quad core Core i7's will be released this year, probably this or next month (too lazy to get the exact dates). The Arrandale 32nm procs are scheduled for Q1 2010. The chips are worth waiting anyways.

Ive got an older ntoebook here as well and I could replace it, but I won't for now. There hasn't been so much progress this year if you compare specs with the notebooks of 1 year ago... So, Core i7, i5 and i3 will bring improvements that are worth the waiting.

Cheers mate, I don't have a laptop yet but I think it would be worth waiting a few months to get a better one if Quad Core CPU's are going to make a big performance jump.

I can get a netbook to do my basic email, browsing and some basic gaming for me just now.

It should be. One of the headline features in Windows 7 is the multitouch support, so these are all showcase devices and naturally, the tm2 would be perfect. I forgot to add that all 2009 Pavillion refresh is expected to incorporate multitouch trackpads.

You're right, it says Expresso Imprint. I think i'll pass. I thought it was gonna look like the dm3 pictures above, just bigger. VERY VERY disappointed in HP. I hate the expresso design. I prefer the plain designs, even the older and discontinued dv5t I have.

Looks like no LED screen. No mention of it. I'm guessing full HD 1920x1080.

Wish they'd release a 20-24" monster notebook, maybe with 2560x1600 resolution.

Exactly. HP just needs to simplify things. And maybe decrease the amount of gloss. Aluminum HP notebooks anyone? Maybe in 2010?

If I could work for the HP design team, I would definately revolutinize HP notebooks haha. Seriously though, I think consumers are the best people to talk to when designing notebooks.

my only worry are the business notebooks, if they come with 16:9 displays.. would be such a fail, as nobody wants a hp business notebook just for watching dvds. and every other use is greatly distorted when having to do it on a 16:9 display. i just tested that 4510s - ugly, ugly and simply bad for any use except watching dvds, with this 16:9 display.. so please, get the 16:10 diplays back.

almost the same grave fail would be launching the top-end models (eg. 8540p & hdx/voodoo for the consumer line) with win7, but without dx11 gpus. just wait some few months more until the little mobility brothers of the this week coming radeon redwood/juniper/cypress (5600/5700/5800) come out, and offer a mainstream/performance (the first two), as well as an enthusiast class (5800) gpu to choose from, as mentioned at the beginning of this thread already..

I just got an Acer 1410, and it had problems right out of the box. The SU3500 seemed really slow on it, so I'm looking at other options.

If HP makes an 11.6 with something better than an Intel graphics chip, I'll be all over it. I'd really like to see something like the dv2 in price and form factor.

Keep us posted on any new information :D

Looks like I'll pass on this Mini 311. I hate those ugly designs, they are a big part in making decisions. Hopefully the 11.6" version doesn't have designs or at least a subtle one.

But what DX11 GPU you'd like to see. If win7 launches, there is no DX11 mobile gpu. And I'd rather have Windows 7 instead of Vista, even withou DX11 gpu...

Anyways, walk ahead, dv8 is crap. CPU is nice, gpu is bad, no just worst... A NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M

dm3 has the GMA X4500 btw. More specs can be found in the comments on notebookspot: http://notebookspot.nl/nieuws/98/1/core-i7-hp-dv8-notebook-lekt-uit-pagina-1.html#comment23

Or perhaps they're bringing back the old HP Compaq nw8440 from 2006!! (The predecessor to the predecessor to the current 8530w!) :p :p

Honestly, the swirls don't bother me that much. I'd prefer it just be solid black, but it's not really a big deal to me. The expresso finish, however, kills anything. lol

I am really leaning towards getting a Mini 311. If the specs and price are what's been posted, I almost surely will.

Yea just saw the dv8 specs and possible design, one site pointed that it was "expresso" which I don't find appealing at all. Very disappointed in HP's half-butted effort.

I liked the old dv7t, the first generation, designs...subtle squares that you can't see unless you look closely. Very manly/unisex design.

Maybe next year...I'm waiting on USB 3.0 as well. Disappointed it hasn't been brought out by now since all these terabyte external drives are becoming more common and transferring is taking forever with USB 2.0.

dont know about you, but for me it would be much more convenient waiting some more months to get the newest hardware than getting a new notebook with a present (eg. radeon 4000) gpu at the moment the new ones (5000) are just being launched.. this is like buying vista now, a month before 7 comes out.. but an OS you can uninstall/upgrade at any time, with the mobile gpu its not that simple unfortunately..

and mobile 5000 gpus are coming in q1 2010, so its not that one would have to wait sooo long. and i hope hp offers a performance class (madison) & a high-end class (broadway) mobile gpu on the p-elitebooks, not just one gpu, and that one generation behind like they did with the 8530p and its 3650 while mobility 4650 already was on the way..

the timing now would be perfect for a complete (high-end) hardware/OS upgrade: win 7, intel lynnfield cpus, ati evergreen gpus - all launched just within less than 6 months (including mobile versions; without them its within less than 2 months!)

Well if there's also an 8540w. If the naming scheme continues, that would be the 15.4" mobile workstation. The only sizes left to go are 14" and below. And since w indicates workstation, and there's a 4 after the 8, I think it'd be a 14" workstation.

    Pretty cool.
