Darn, they said a November release. I was hoping for something sooner...
-
-
Darn, they said XP only.
I'm hoping there's a version like the text unit -- with at least 2GB RAM and Windows 7.
Also, seems like the info about these laptops will come out on Tuesday, given what the article said (also, on Voodoo's forums they said we'll hear more next week...). -
I'm still waiting for the compaq 516 WITH THE ANTI GLARE SCREEN.

The new Envy range is super sexy. I sure hope they have a full aluminium shell, which would make it a perfect alternative to the Macbook Pro.

Hope the prices won't be too high. Envy 15 is looking pretty good with a 4830.

Envy looks nice!! Wish that's how the Pavilion line would look in the near future. Guess I'll go with the Envy if it's price right.
Any news of a 17 or 18 inch Envy coming out? -
-
Not bad, I'm loving the Envy 15" but what's with the button in front of the bottom area? Is that to disable the touchpad?

Well, here's one from the actual HP website:

10 hours huh? I'm just hoping it'll at least come close to 6-8 hours while staying cool.
So based on the posts, it seems the DM3 is coming in Intel and AMD flavors? Based on my experience, I think I'll go with the Intel CULV vs. the AMD Neo. Had a SU9400 with Acer Timeline 13" and battery life was 7-8 hours just surfing internet. So I never have to charge the battery for 3-4 days.
Gave it to my bro for school though, now looking for HP to possibly replace it. -
I think I have some specs for the dm3 or at least one configuration of it.
Intel Core 2 Duo SP9300 2.26ghz CPU (this CPU means its built into the board)
DDR3 1066mhz ram
512mb G105 graphics using GDDR3
5400rpm, 7200rpm HDDs and MAYBE Intel SSDs too.
Mobile broadband will also be an option. And the units are going to be assembled by Flextronics, same company that does the Pavilion dv2. -
Those specs point to a specific model of the dm3 that is probably either meant for "ready to ship" or brick and mortar retail models.
They will no doubt allow customizing on their site next month. Fingers crossed for decent C2D options and graphics options.
Oh, oh, and a backlight keyboard. Pretty please. -
Well, the HP Winter 2009/2010 catalog has been leaked and can be seen on Engadget. This includes all the new consumer notebooks and netbooks being talked about as well as a new/refreshed desktop lineup.
Potentially interesting details: a TouchSmart edition of the dv3 now, and at least the dv8 will have a 1 GB GeForce GT 230M configuration. The ENVY 15 will have 4 SO-DIMM slots, two of them user-accessible for up to 16 GB of RAM. The new models will use DDR3 memory.

And there does not appear to be an equivalent to the HDX16 in the new range, so I may need to start again, or snap one up quickly.... -
yesterday i was at the hp ideas 2009 event in vienna (austria), and after the presentations of some new products - among them the really amazing z800 workstations co-designed by bmw with up to 192gb ram, 2x core i7 and except for the gpu NO SCREWS at all!, just trays - i asked the product manager for notebooks for austria about the upcoming notebooks.
since the event was mostly corporate-oriented the majority of the products presented were business products and business solutions (also by intel & microsoft), but they presented some consumer line products (mainly notebooks) as well.
since i was interested in the 8x40p/w notebooks, i asked him about them and he told me that they, together with some others theres not much information about yet, unlike the dv8, dm1, envy..., will come in january or maybe a bit later - theyre waiting for intel to release their new chipsets.
so maybe there are also the hdx among them. i also asked about the gpus inside them and his comment was "the most recent hardware" - if this means that the 8x40p/w, and maybe also the hdx, willl come with a directx 11 gpu, HP's making the elitebooks and eventually hdx really elite, as i didnt hear about any notebook announced with a dx11 gpu yet. -
All right, I can now confirm that the refreshed dv6 and dv7 lines will also have the option of an NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M, like the dv8.

Notebook GPU's will come way later IMO. That's probably why you haven't heard any announcements about it yet.
Edit: Quick Google brought up this site on NBR. By way later I guess I mean early next year then...

mobility radeon 5000 gpus are coming late november 09, so theres no problem that notebooks released in january/february 2010 (=more than 6 weeks after release) come with them.

ok, just wanted to give a heads up, reason to believe that the dm3 is launching soon. Have word that the first ones will ship with VISTA, so that means before October 22nd.
-
It would have been nice if they dropped the coffee effect for the titanium, meh; no more HDX probably.
Good thing I got one already; Bad thing it's not a Core i7... I probably wouldn't have been able to afford a Core i7 laptop anyway. -

ok I have some news. dv6s and dv7s get i7/230M, refreshes of the AMD model of the dv4 are coming, dm3 will be launching with windows 7 (got some conflicting info that it may launch before windows 7 and ship with Vista but what's the point?) and the dm3 is replacing the dv2, so no more dv2 as the mini311/dm1 and dm3 are going to take up its place. In other replacement news, the dv8 is the replacement for HDX18T but the HDX16 is still going to be around/revamped, again to i7/230m spec. There is also going to be a new model CQ35 revamp which may or may not make it to north america. Also the G60/CQ60 is getting revamped, will no longer have Nvidia graphics. dm3, dv8 and dv4/6/7 revamps will be here before Christmas. Touchsmart dv3 maybe a little later, and the dm1 may or may not be coming to north america. Do not know for sure. Most of the basic UMA AMD models are going to switch to HD4200 graphics from 3200. 4530/4650 Radeons will stick around on the graphics front. No word on Intel UMAs, looks like most of their Intel stuff besides the G60s are going be high end i7 and to be going Nvidia for graphics.
-
Crap no more HDX18T. I was hoping they'd make a unibody version of the 18" monster with Core i7 + ATi 5000 series. Bummer. I hate that coffee color with the design on the dv8, dv7, dv6, and so on...
-
Yeah, HP forgot some of us like plain colors. They should offer some basic colors: black, blue, silver, red and then a couple of designs. Choice is good!
-
I'm waiting for a DM1. They better be coming to America before Christmas.
-
Is DM1 the 11.6" version of the DM3? It wouldn't make sense for HP to have it in the US if they already have the HP Mini311, which is ugly, design-wise. Those dumb ugly swirls need to go.
I'm guessing the DM1 has similar design to the DM3, which has that aluminum casing. They should just opt to have those two.
Why not design the whole Pavilion line with that aluminum casing all around? HP just went wild with those designs over the last few years...time to stop. The only Pavilion design I ever liked was the dv5 series and the older dv4, v7 series with the subtle tiny squares and black lid. Only downfall was too much glossiness.
I hope HP opts for a more subtle approach and only limit the gloss to the displays and keep everything else aluminum. That would be a great line for HP. I'm looking to buy an portable multitouch notebook and giant 18" one, but those have designs that I do not like. Especially their tx2z, with those flower designs.
Sorry for the rant. Anyway, any news of upcoming refresh to the tx2z series? Maybe an Intel version? This is something many have been waiting for, but surprisingly, HP never went for it. -

DM1 is is just the Mini 311 with a Core 2 ULV processor. Not worth it when the graphics are probably going to be far worse and it'll probably cost more.
-
Has anybody heard anything about a HP Mini 5102? It is in the title of the article, but never mentioned. I have seen someone else inquiring about this as well.
Looking at picking up the 5101 in the coming weeks, but not if a refresh is hitting soon. Thanks. -
Im glad to see the 311 Mini is available with Wifi-N and Bluetooth (albeit an extra $50 bucks). The only thing thats keeping me from not picking it up is the DM3. Bigger screen and better processor is well worth the extra size & weight.
But the DM3 looks like my dream machine:
CULV processor
HDMI
Up to 5 gigs of Ram
Brushed Aluminum design
13.3" LED screen with 1366x768 rez
Card reader
Battery Life long enough for a cross country flight
Im guessing the Wifi-N + Bluetooth will be an additional $50 bucks as with the 311.. but why in the hell would they not offer this with a better graphics solution. The Ion sounds like the perfect partner for the CULV processors.
Is the Ion non-compatible with the CULV or something?? -
ION is GF9300/9400 + Atom, so yes, It's non compatible ;p
Of course they could just put GF9300/9400 with CULV. From marketing point of view this would not be Ion but who cares as it would do the same thing + have more CPU power. -
Maybe AMD/ATI solution would be the next alternative. We'll see once the review comes out how the AMD Neo + Radeon matches up to the CULV + Intel IGP version of the DM3 matches up. The good thing about the AMD Neo + ATi is that when plugged in, it has a dedicated GPU and when not plugged in, the IGP takes over.
Coming soon: HP Pavilion dm1/dm3/dv8/tm2 Notebooks, Mini 5102, Compaq CQ36 + more
