I have given up completely on IBM. I basically can't get any laptop from them in a timely manner, so I am going back to HP I think. I had a nc6230 few months ago that got returned for a sqeaky keyboard and muddy looking LCD. I am curious how the nw8240 rates screen wise with brightness and contrast.

I guess some key things I wnated to know about the laptop was if the screen brightness issue has been fixed on HP's side. They issued that one recall on the notebookes in Decemeber, and were swapping out LCd's. Has anyone had a chance comparing the 2, or comparing a newer (january+) HP business notebook yet?

I am guessing the widescreen LCd's are probably the same IBM is using as the brightness is in the same range, and there aren't that many places that make them in the size and resolution range.

How well does the FireGL graphics card work for minimal games use, and also compatibility for Vista, or drivers for linux?

Their screens are still rated at 180nit/200:1 -- I suspect there won't be any upgrade/improvement in this area until they release their CoreDuo lineup (assuming they intend to improve the screen at all).

Well something changed because of that recall bit. Anything Nov 15 + was a different unit.

The part that makes me wonder is if there is a common standard for measuring the brightness and contrast across the board, or if some companies do it in different ways to make results better where they can.

The 15.4" Dell 6000 screens list similar specs right now, which makes me think maybe they might share lcd's. Another part of the equation is if one company lists a max contrast and brightness rating, while another lists minimum or average.

Who here has a nc8000 or nw8000 laptop and would like to comment on it?
