While I do have a nice new ZT3000 to use, all my music is still on my other laptop, a Compaq 2700T. The problem is that I can't get the music off of the notebook! It won't burn to CD...

When the notebook is plugged in, the fans come on and stay on. After a while, the notebook becomes slow to respond and eventually gets stuck with whatever I'm trying to do. This happen so quickly that I have not been able to burn a single disc of music to a CD from the hard drive. If I use the computer on battery power it lasts longer but it still nver finishes a single CD. It is still a good notebook and I'd like to be able to repair it. The hinges are messing up a bit as well, but everything else is perfect. Never dropped or anything like that...

What can I do to get this thing back in working order? How do I get all that music back? Thanks!

You can try networking all the files to your new notebook. You can also buy an external USB drive enclosure and put your 2700T HDD into that and connect it to your ZT3000 to copy out all the files.

If the system is overheating, make sure nothing is blocking the vents. You can also try increasing the power management settings to full so that the CPU speed drops as low as possible. You can try looking at the BIOS to see if there's a Speed Step option, if so, disable it, it'll drop your CPU speed (it did on my NX7000).
