Why it works like this? It must work at 1800Mhz but it's only 757 how can I change?
Cpu is AMD Athlon 3000+ 64Bit
    Model is Compaq Presario R3230CA

    welcome to the club lol...
I had the same problem as thisand heres hwo to dix it downlaod the new f.21 bios from compaq.ca and also the powernow driversandamd 64 bit drivers install them and reboot and then select Always on in Poweroptions section in control panel then reboot but before you reboot plug in your ac. Now it should read teh right speed but if you are on battery it will read 797mhz because the speed varies on battery to preserve battery life....If all this doesnt work then read my more manual advice which I posted on a different thread.

I have finally found the proper solution to this problem that works all the time. Even if you tried uninstalling power options and reinstalling it it will say 1.6ghz in control panel but if you shut down then restart on battery only itll say 797 then once you start up again on AC power itll stay at 797 once again. However this solution works guranteed.

    1) Install amd 64 driver (thats right this is key for proper power switching when in battery mode, however if you prefer to have max speed even when on battery you choose not to install this or uninstall it if you already ahave it. If you keep it and you are on ac power you will be on max speed and when you unplug you will have speedswitching even without rebooting.

    2) Go to Cpuid.com and download Clockgen (be sure to download the version that is correct for you motherboard! this is very important)

    3) Use Clockgen to max you multiplier and clock speed (note your comp may or I should say will freeze, dont panic this is normal just wait 2 minutes and manually shutdown your notebook, on my Compaq I just hold down the power key)

    4) After you reboot you have the proper speed all the time no matter if it is on battery or ac and doesnt matter which power source you boot first with. the speed switch is instantaneous and doesnt require rebooting.

*Please note if you choose to uninstall amd 64 bit drivers then your comp will always be at the max speed or whatever speed you set it to, it is only if you install them will you get different speeds with ac and battery.

I hope this helps, I've went thourgh many many many unhelpful store reps and tech reps, and many hourse of hair pulling till I discovered this technique. This solution will always work but if you refer to wait fo ran bios update from HP then thats your choice ( ive heard one is coming soon).

    Well anyways Enjoy

Also go to CPUID.COM and download CPUClock which shows in real time your cpu speed accurately. The windows xp detection system is a bit faulty.
