Couple of days ago i found out that battery of my Compaq isn't charged anymore. Icon on taskbar is showing "Plugged in, not charging", charge level slowly descended from ~45% to 0%. Updating bios, trying to calibrate battery and uninstalling "ACPI battery" device had no effect. HP Battery Check describes the battery as dead (it's in russian, but i hope you will be able to find out what's what, comparing it to another's screen shot, this one, for example):

So, full charge capacity is shown as 30%. I don't think, that such a sharp drop happened due to wear - other utilities show the wear level equals 0%. I guess, 1360 mAh FCC is shown due to uncalibration.
Voltage is ok, AC Power is "true", but the battery is not charging, LED blinks white when AC is plugged in, but the orange "charging' led doesn't glow.
I will be glad to now any ideas about the cause of problem and suggetions how to solve it.
    Thanks.

Cause of problem: individual cells have died completely.
    Solution: new battery.

I had that happen on my tc4400 original battery. In very short time total capacity dropped couple times in big chunks, when cells just died.

So why do they show normal voltage?
And i read many reports with similar problems when battery and AC adapter change didn't help or the problem recommenced after couple of days. I afraid of wasting money on the component which is not the cause.
I've read reports of other manufacturers' notebook owners and lot of them had the problem solved with bios update. HP bios is sort of strange and has very little options. I think the problem is in motherboard but i'm not sure whether it is software or hardware issue.

And if it is the battery issue, which one would you recommend to buy?

I don't know how to explain it in english, it would be hard for me to explain even in finnish :D Manufacturer can combine cells in different ways to provide higher voltage or capacity. In this case you have lost capacity. Someone with better english skills could explain better.

I would recommend original of course ;) However they are insanely expensive for older laptops, especially when compared to 3rd party batteries (that can be good or bad). I bought some no-name clone battery from eBay for my tc4400 and it has worked for two years and as far as I remember, 0 wear so far.

For HP/Compaq Notebook PC 615 original 8 Cell battery is 490306-001
    Specs:
    8 Cells 63W 14.4V 4.4Ah
    Alt. Part Number(s): 464119-362, 464119-363, 484787-001, 490306-001, 491279-001, KU532AA

I think those could help you to locate suitable replacement.
