    Ok!

In the device manager for my laptop it shows a 'standard duel channel IDE controler' I was wondering what this is for, seeming as the harddrive in this notebook computer is a sata harddrive, although it appears to be using the IDE controler to function, and there is no sata controler in sight in the device manager. I know for certain the the harddrive in this laptop is a SATA harddrive going by the harddrive model ST3750640AS where as the IDE model of this harddrive is ST3750640A

If anyone could tell me why my notebook computer is using an IDE controler for a SATA harddrive i would be greatfull. I have tried looking on the HP driver download site and there are no sata controler driver downloads.

Also, the harddrive runs at ~45 degrees with minimal usage, is this somthing to be worried about?

The cpu temp is 40 degrees ideling and 54 degrees under load is this too high?

If anyone could answer these questions i would be greatfull.

    **Edit**

Also the screen wobbles a bit when the laptop is moved arround, and there is a noticable creak when pressure is applied to the palm rest on the laptop, is this normal?

The delete key and left shift key have also come loose over time and had to be glued back into place, I am going to order a new keyboard off the internet.

The laptop is 8 months old.

    Thankyou!

CPU temp is fine, Hard drive temp seems rather high. What utilities are you using to get those temps?

The screen wobble is normal IMO, based on the fact that my nw8440's screen has always wobbled.

The keys coming loose on your keyboard is definitely NOT normal. I know I'm a pretty heavy typist (not saying that you are or anything), and I've never had that issue with my nw8440.

I have no idea about the 'standard duel channel IDE controller' thing.

Im a light Touch-typer and the buttons have been quite loose since purchase.

I was using CPUID Hardware Monitoring for the temperatures, harddrive is currently at 43 degrees cpu 31. and thanks for the re-assurance on screen-wobble though i may try tightening the hinges when my warrenty expires in ~4 months

and the duel-channel IDE controler is realy confusing me, there is no options in the bios about this (HP Bios is pretty damn useless, one of the worst bios' ive seen)

    any suggestions on it?

Do you have the Standard AHCI Serial ATA Controller listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section of Device Manager?

In BIOS, there is a setting to use IDE or SATA mode.

Nope no settings in bios, and it says that its an IDE controller under the ata/atapi thing. not sata but the hdd is most definatly sata, ive taken it out and looked at the connector to check.
