Hi, first off..greetings to all forum members..new guy here.
..ok, let me get to the point..
..recently I bought a HP Compaq 8510p with Windows Vista Buisness 32bit installed.
Usualy I worked on my old HP laptop..cant remember the model name, anyways It was getting old and slow, so I decided to get a new one. Now Ive got this Compaq 8510p with a T7700 / 2Gb / HD2600 and It seems slower than my previous old XP Powered HP.
Ive read that some of the users got 8510 working faster by reinstaling the OS, but I didnt get any DVD-s or CD-s with it..just Windows Vista Buisness already installed on it with the drivers included in it. So..no OS..no drivers in the package (kinda lame since this notebook costed me a fortune). Anyways is there any solution beside reinstaling the OS to get this notebook run faster, because I turned off most of the Vista themes, gadgets etc and Its still slower than my old Pentium 4 Desktop pc..

    Cya and thnx.. :D

Do you have service pack 1? That seems to help quite a bit. I try to keep the things that turn on with Windows to an absolute minimum. If your desktop is using a faster hard drive that may be a reason why it seems slower.

    It'll be on HP's website.

I also always go for a fresh install when I get a new computer, much better. One thing you might want to check is the power option your computer is set to. If it's on power saver at default this will limit your processor to just 50%.

Verry slow, sometimes when I open Explorer or Mozilla I have to wait 5-6 seconds untill it starts responding..sometimes it freezes..browsing trough forders is extremely slow..etc. My frend had described it like you`r working under watter..working..but slow motion :D
..and with a good processor and a new OS on a expensive notebook I WANT it to run smoothly.

Yeah my 8510p was very slow when I first got it. Reformatting + reinstalling Vista, along with tweaking the OS to hell and back really helped speed things up. Nice to hear you got your DVDs!
