    Hi all,

About a month ago I purchased a Compaq V2410us from Office Depot. Haven't been able to use it much until this past week, so I didn't notice this until now. When I had it off and the screen was totally black, a co-worker pointed out that it look liked something was splattered all over the screen. In fairness, it's over the entire screen, but it's little tiny dots. Is this the "coating" they use to make it a brightview screen? It looks absolutely terrible if it does. I'm not sure if it affects the screen while on. I belive I notice it when looking at something black. I wouldn't be too concerned, except I would like to sell this and get a 17 inch laptop. The 14 inch is way too small for me. But I don't want to say it's in perfect shape if this is a defect. Or try to get the screen replaced if it is. Can anyone check out their Compaq w/brightview and see what their screens look like when off? It's quite noticeable, so you should see it immediately. IF it's the coating and should be this way, I apologize. Thanks in advance and thanks for any advice.
    TT
PS. Cleaning with proper screen cleaner does nothing. The "dots" or "stuff" is still there.

I have the Pavillion dv1000t with Brightview, and there doesn't appear to be anything on my screen when it's turned off. It's completely black, but reflective.

    Very clean.

Thanks for the input. Mine is completely black but with "stuff" everywhere on the screen. Anyone else? I'm not sure if Office Depot will help with this problem since that's where I purchased it. Not sure who to talk to since I don't know if it's defective or not??!! Thanks again. Anyone else notice this?

    Hi Ticktock,
I have a Pavilion with a 15.4" screen and no bubbles or other stuff on the screen. Is there maybe a thin film of plastic on the LCD to protect it during shipping? Just a thought.

do you have a tendency to spit when you talk?
if so, it may very well be dried saliva (or some other liquid).
try cleaning it with a wet cloth (i assume you've only tried a dry cloth).

Look at the LCD from a 30 degree angle (or near it). If the spots on the screen are either white or dark (after wiping off with a LCD screen cleaner)
Then most likely the screen was damaged at some point. Impressions from either force being applied from the front or back of the screen.
Or, liquid penetrated the coating on the screen and is now inside it.
How many are there? This doesn't have anything to do with Brightview if it's what I'm thinking it is, happens with all LCDs. Let me check on whether it will be repaired under warranty or not if you sent in it, or just return it and get another.

Thanks everyone for the input. I guess I'll say it looks like "overspray" of some sort. Nope, it's not "spit" hehe. If it was, it would be perfectly spat (is that a word?) over the entire screen!! I tried to take a picture, but that doesn't work with the reflection. Szadek, if you have found anything, please let me know. I'm not sure I should even bother with Office Depot now because it was a clearance item. Fully sealed, but clearance none the less. Any advice I'd appreciate. I'm trying to figure out where I could take it just to look and see what it could be? Like not warranty or anything, but just a place that knows about computers. Suggestions? Thanks again!!

It's hard to say in your case. There are specifications on what is and what is not billable. Alot of it depends on the technician who diagnoses your laptop and what you use as your problem description. I'll see what more I can dig up.
