    Compaq CQ40-630LA memory problem?

    hey guys,

    my friend recently upgraded the memory on his compaq, and now the laptop will not start with both new and old mem sticks, or the new one alone. the caps lock/num lock LED's blink, but more than 3 times, which leads me to believe that it isn't a memory problem, yet the laptop starts with the old OEM memory stick applied.

    anyone have any ideas what could cause the problem?
