I am looking at a friend's Compaq CQ50, slightly over a year old and out of warranty.

If I turn it on, the Compaq logo appears, but the OS never loads. No beeps or other error indications. Every time the hard drive light blinks once or twice when I first hit the power switch and a few times after the BIOS screens go by and thats it, nothing is ever displayed on the screen.

I have reseated RAM and hard drive. I can get into the BIOS and have run memory and hard drive tests, it says they passed. I thought the battery might be bad and tried starting it without the battery, just plugged in, still black screens, no boot. I tried to elimiate the hard drive by using a Utlimate Boot Disk CD in the DVD drive, nothing ever displays.

I'm stumped, any ideas? I don't ever buy Compaqs and am unfamiliar with them.

Update - I bought a BlacX to test the drive out and there is nothing wrong with it. I ran a virus scan on the hard drive, no viruses.

The Compaq CQ50 is basically dead at just over a year old even though it looks like new, very sad.
