what do you guys know about the compaq f700 series? is this a good laptop model or it this one laptop that i should avoid? i just bought an acer that was a total POS off craigslist that i finally got rid of. and know i'm looking at a 1 year old compaq f700-(F762NR) with 3 gigs RAM for $300. supposedly in perfect condition. i'm just trying to avoid another nightmare like i did with the acer i recently got rid of...

any widely known problems? or is this a computer i should go ahead and grab?

    thanks, seth

The F762NR was a fairly low-spec system when it was new- 1.9GHz AMD Athlon TK-57, 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive, nVIDIA 7000M integrated graphics. I wouldn't pay $300 for one with no warranty. If it has problems, you're left holding the bag.

For $399, you could get a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934. It has a 90-day warranty, 2.0GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70, 3GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, ATI 3100 graphics, DVD RW and webcam- LINK

Or I'd even suggest either of these brand new ones with a one year warranty for $379- LINK-Toshiba LINK-Compaq

I had an F730US that i picked up for 480 new 1.5 years ago. It was decent for the money, the TK-57 is a slight step up from that but same ram and hdd and the 7000 probably aint much better then the 6100 except better shader/directx support. Overall i liked it and other then the wireless card that ended up with the same problem as the dv6000 it was still as good as new when i got rid of it.

Unfortunately u mentioned trouble with acer otherwise id say you can get a acer on sale for 400 dollars that would definitly do alot better then the F762. I've heard some horror stories with acer.
