    Compaq Laptop presario 2100

    I purchased this Laptop and gave it to my daughter four years ago. I have come to see her. I found that my Laptop is in a bad condition. When I switched on the system, it asked me to select the drive for the booting. I went to cmos settings and without changing any settings, i saved it. Then it gave one more warning like this"SMART failure predicted on HD-0 Warning Immediate back up your data and replace your HD Drive.Press F1 to continue.
    Please advice me further. I have to Memphis in US. I dont know any one here to repair my laptop. Should I wait till i reach India during November. I will close the Laptop till November. I am a senior Citizen aged 66.
    Please advice me how to go about it.

    Your hard drive has failed, it just needs replacing.

    Im guessing its IDE hard drive, which should cost you around $50-$100 to replace

    Hi,
    I have one more problem. I am changing the hard drive and the battery. Windows xp has been preloaded inthe lap top. I have the Sl number. Before i change the hard disk, can i copy the windows xp and the sp2 and bios set up on a CD. How to do it. Please tell me the procedure.
