Hi guys, I am a newbie here and I just bought my first laptop. I really like the laptop but it has a distinct odor to it that is rather unpleasant. This odor was noticed right out of the sealed box and I thought it would disappear after a few days but it hasn't. The odor is almost like a combination of a rubber and fish oil smell and appears to be strongest by the keyboard.
Has anyone had this before? If so how can I get rid of it??? Also keep in mind that this is my second laptop of the same model, first one (which did not have this odor)had a bad right speaker so I just did an even exchange.
Please help....Thanks

hmmm.. I would love to know what HP tech support would have to say about that. I had a similar problem however it was not with a laptop. It was with some "Energy conserving" insulation that was wrapped around my water heater. Probably had to do with an adhesive, or something of that nature. I wouldn't understand how one would have that smell and the other wouldn't.. especially being brand new devices.

rubber and fish oil? well I was thinking you might be complaining of an electrical burning smell and I was going to recommend returning the notebook right away, but this is a rather odd thing to be experiencing. Umm, I don't know what to suggest though, you could complain to tech support or try just getting a notebook cleaning kit and just simply cleaning it and see if it yields any improvement in odor.
rather amusing []

I once got a free Sony Vaio laptop due to the fact a guy spilled his bong water in the keyboard and he was afraid that he would get shocked if he used it. It had a funny smell for the first couple of months......
