For the second time in a year, the pin for the power outlet has come loose and I need to bring it back to the shop because the laptop will not power on with the power supply plugged in.

Have OTHER Presario users had this problem?

Is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening or
fix it without sending it back for 3 weeks?
    (fortunately it's still under warrenty).

This problem mainly happens when there's too much stress on the power connector. If you yank on the power cord while still plugged in the unit (tripping over it) will torque the connector. If the connector is on the back of the unit, pushing the unit tightly up against something will cause the connector to flex and snap off the motherboard if done enough times. When I used to repair notebooks, this was a common thing to see. The only solutions are to either be careful with the power plug connector or send the unit in for repair.

I did nothing to mine... just left it in infact and mine still had the same problem yours did-- in fact... I called HP on it.. the first time they hung up on me... and now the better business bureau is attempting to look into it... but HP is lying through their teeth-- which is kinda fun to call them on but what can you do. Mine broke 3 times-- each time I sent it out-- each time they sent it back-- each time within a day it had broken again-- they say its due to use-- I say its because they just dont make them right.

It did it to my new HP pavilion zx5078cl notebook just two (2) months after the manufacturers warranty expired (thank goodness I got the extended warranty as its a minimu $225 plus shipping to have the repair depot look at it, and I imagine their will be parts costs and probably some more labor if they have to replace the motherbaord (unsure if it is soidered to the motherboard or just a connector -- being the main power -- it is probably soidered). So, probably a $500 repair minimum.
