Hi there, i hope this is the correct thread for me to be posting this into but i really do need the help of somebody from here!
first off i have a compaq presario 1500 with a pentium 4 running XP SP3 on it. I am having trouble with keeping it under a good heat, the fan is constantly running high! i know this needs a good clean but the screws to remove the back casing are so small for me to do this!! any suggestions of how i can clean inside? or get to th fan through the top by the keyboard?
secondly it tends to crash every now and then, maybe when it overclocks on the cpu?? i am recently trying out a program called speedswitchXP which seems to be slowing it down to an extent! but not solving the issue.
thirdly and finally, my battery only holds charge for around 10 minutes before needing constant wall plugin! i constantly have it plugged into the wall, could this be a result to any of my problems?

I moved your thread to the HP/Compaq section of the forums.
1)/2) Your notebook is likely overheating and thus shutting down. Cleaning out its fan is your best shot. Try and get a screw driver that fits at home depot or rona and if you cant you can hold the fan with a tooth pick and spray compressed air through so it blows the dust out (do not tilt the can).
3) You will need a new battery if you want a long charge as it is worn down. Notebook batteries loose charge over time and the older they get the less they hold -
best place for a replacement battery is going to be ebay. As far as cleaning it out you might want to find a shop that will service it if your not willing to do it yourself or afraid of breaking it. pentium 4 always ran really hot so that is most likely the culprit. most shops will do the cleaning for about 50 dollars in my area. I know it sounds steep but trust me if your to afraid to do it yourself then that is the place to go. Also dont bother with best buy as they dont do in house service like they used to and are way to expensive. Hope this helps!!
