    Hello,
I am not sure if this is the right place in the forum to place this message, but i will appreciate if you can help me out in solving the problem that i have.

I have a Compaq Presario 2104US (Mobile Athlon XP-M 2800+,30GB, 768RAM, Video Radeon IGP 320M). The problem that it has is that power cuts off when processor is used heavily...for example playing a game(Counter Strike). Processor runs very hot, and when i touch the area below where the processor is, the HDD and the ram it is very hot. I tried to clean the fan, flashed the BIOS, did some optimizations with software programs, but it didnt help. But when i reinstalled the video card driver the cut offs became rare but still exist. Does anyone has an idea what can be wrong and possible solutions (except throwing the **** laptop from the window). Thank you!

It does sound like it's overheating. Did it play these games before? I don't know anything about that graphics chip... maybe it doesn't have the power to play at the settings you want without overheating.

See one of the undervolting threads here for how to bring your CPU temps down. Also, run MobileMeter to monitor your CPU and HDD temps. It's also possible that HP did a poor job of applying the thermal compound to the CPU heatsink, that's happened to a few people. Undervolting cuts heat output dramatically enough that it should take care of you regardless, assuming overheating is the real problem.

Based on your findings, I am thinking more of a Video drivers vs Game you are playing? See if that game has anything to do with that and if anyone has any problems with that specific game.

Basically, processor goes into thermal throttling even before it shuts down, so I doubt if it is an issue with over heating. But again this is my guess.

Ofcourse under volting with RM Clock never hurts! :)
