    Hello every one,

Yeah I know. This name is quite old now and very boring but what do I do? I have to stick with it. since I am a student only... *sigh*

Ok. Now the problem with this is that it came with Desktop CPU which is a total disaster because it always runs at it's original speed that is P4 2.8 Ghz. I wonder if there is any way of forcing it to run on lower speed? Is it possible?

I would like to change it's CPU to Intel Mobile P4 2.66 Ghz but no body sells it in my country, and one shop I talked to said they will order it for me in around 350 US $ :\, that's too much now.

I would be happy with this laptop but the problem is that it gets really hot in warm weather plus when it runs for long time, every thing seems to go slow, the whole Windows, every software starts working slow, what is the reason for this?

Another strange thing, when things are running really slow, I get out the power cable from laptop, then put it back in, and voila, things start fine again for sometimes. What's this problem?

If I had money I would have personally bought Acer's wlmi version, the Centrino Duo 2 Ghz or better than that, far better than that the Dell XPS M1710 which is reviewed here:-http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2887&review=Dell+XPS+M1710

With the slowing down and heating, it maybe spyware or its because the processor needs more cooling. You could try some of the programs that help with processors.

With desktop Pentium4 without Speedstep it is not really possible to undervolt to reduce the heat since such programs depend on this feature. A cheaper alternative is to get a cooling pad which will blow more air into the air intakes and thereby reduce the ambient temperature.

Regarding the slow down, it might also be related to overheating of the cpu. Most laptops reduce the voltage when they run on batteries, so when you pulled the plug the temps decreased and the laptop ran at its ususal speed. Another reason as Bhatman sggested might also be related to spyware, virus which might be taking up cpu resources.

Also, if the air intakes are either blocked or are dusty, try cleaning them as over time dust builds up decreasing the efficiency of the fan.
