I have downloaded some drivers from both here and from HP to try to get the card (Atheros AR5007 wireless NIC) working under XP with no luck. The best I can do is get windows to recognize the card and load drivers for but not start it. I get the error "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)." It shows up in driver manage with a yellow bang (!).

Jcanada on this forum said he got his to work by tweaking the INF file for the driver but hasn't responded to PMs. Anyone with this card working under windows XP?

This is a Compaq C700 CTO notebook with the Intel processor.

Did your C700 come with the Atheros card or did you swap it in? If you swapped it in, that means that HP has removed the BIOS whitelist that forced people to use only HP-approved cards.... YAAAAAAY!!!! :D

If your notebook came with the Atheros card, if you backed up the c:\swsetup folder from the stock Vista installation there should be an Atheros driver setup program there and if you're really lucky it'll support both Vista and XP.

My one complaint about Atheros is that they don't post drivers on their website. Way better hardware than Intel and Broadcom though.

Do you know who built the Atheros card? Was it originally in another brand notebook? Check those companies' websites for drivers.

Check Windows Update for driver updates. Usually I advise caution with notebook driver updates from Windows Updates but when all else fails...

I didn't have any drivers under c:\swsetup that were for the Atheros. I came with the notebook as the original card. I have tried the Vista drivers install on XP and it recognizes the card but gives me the error I posted above.

Hmm, are you absolutely sure it's an Atheros card?
