    Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone has seen the Compaq Presario B3800 series?
They include the B3812AP and the B3813AP

    http://h50025.www5.hp.com/hpcom/au_en/11_29_64_3514_PN773PA.html

Does anyone have more info on this notebook?
    Has anyone tried it out?
The specs on this notebook looks pretty good, and its slim and light (~2.5kg)

hey, so I take it this is new to the Australian website? It's not even on the U.S. website, but it looks a lot like the Presario nc6000 that we recently reviewed

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.aspx?newsID=2081&review=HP+NC6000

I might be wrong that these are equivalent though, i do see that this presario has an ATI 9700 while the nc6000 has a 9600. The specs look very nice though...a true gaming notebook in a thin-and light design. The only thing is they offer only XGA resolution...that kinda cripples the notebook in my opinion. I'd want to see SXGA offered for this sized screen at least.

Yes, it is from the HP Australian site, simply because I'm from Australia [ :D]

I don't think this would be the equivalent to the NC6000, because the specs are a little different, and they look totally different.

So is it possible that the B3800 series is only available to the southern hemishpere? If thats true then it's a shame, coz I would've like to see a review done on it here at Notebookreview.com

I agree that the XGA display is a let down for this notebook, and that they should've made it widescreen [ ;)]
But besides that, this notebook has really nice specs.

yes, right now it appears this notebook is only available down under and not in North America. Just not sure if they'll ever be available in the States or reviewed on this site. Well, unless somebody from Australia were to get the notebook and then do a review [8D] Unfortunately I don't live there so can't volunteer to do such a thing.

I saw a review on a HK computer magazine they didn't have a release day on the review. According the the review the B3800 is the first HP/Compaq that offer Bright View LCD (similar to the xbright on the sony). They don't have much other info on this laptop. The spec is really impressive the only draw back is that it is not wide screen. I fall in love with my wide screen 8600. Everything on my 19" LCD look so big now. kekeke

    Here is the specs:
    Intel P-M 725/1.6GHz
    512MB DDR
    60G/80G
    8x DVD+/-RW
    ATI Mobility R9700 128MB
    Intel PRP/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g
    USB 2.0x4
    IEEE 1394
    MS/SD/MMC reader
    328x268x27.6 (mm)
    2.55kg

    I just got the B3812AP (PM1.7G, 512Ram, R9700 64MB, 60G...)

This is my first laptop purchase, so it was a bit risky given no reviews, but the components sounded good for the price. I'm going to use it for work, games, and more games.

Screen looks awesome, bright, and clear. Refresh rate was 60hz. A colleage who has more experience says it is "bloody good.".

Ran the 3dMark test after the install out of the box. The sound didn't get tested for some reason, otherwise performed pretty well in graphic areas-

    Wings of Fury: 107fps
    Battle of Proxycon: 15.6fps
    Trolls Lair: 15.1fps
    Mother Nature: 16.9fps

    CPU
    CPU Test 1: 65.5fps
    CPU Test 2: 9.3fps

    Overall Score: 2723

Bright screen, and very light, good design, the buttons below touch pad are very solid and tight. Keyboard is a little bit spongy, but it is not a major problem at all. Power supply is very slim too.

I am very happy with the purchase. I'd be interested to hear if the 128MB version of the graphics card would offer significant improvements in any particular area.

Hi there, I own one of these laptops, and would highly recommend it to any laptop user.
The wireless networking is very good. Speed of the 1.7ghz processor is as good as a desktop, and what impresses me most is the 4.5 hour battery life, which I have proved not to be a gimick. The bright screen is excellent, although I must say when using the B3800 outdoors, it is slightly harder to read the screen, due to reflection. 3 of my friends have also bought this laptop and are equally impressed with it, slim fast and reliable. Bundled with useful software, I am very happy I chose Compaq Presario B3800 Notebook Pc

    Regards Scott Magee.

I have also bought the B3812AP, its only been a few days but so far im impressed. Externally this machine is very well built, everything fits properly unlike my current Dell Inspiron 8100. I put heaps of research into my new purchase being a personaility which borders on extreme paranoia and made my choice based on the following.

    *Battery life (in top 75%)
*Bright view screen with a XGA resolution
*15 inch screen and no wide screen ect.
    *Latest video card
    *Centrino technology (form factor size)

My current Dell has 1400 by 1050 resolution which was to high for me, I realised increasing text sizes helped but found higher resolution screens consume more power in ruff terms.

Only thing i didn't like about the Compaq was no second battery support.
