I'm looking at buying the Compaq Presario C500T laptop from the online hp store. I've done a little research and found out the maximum specifications allowed on the c500t. I was wondering if I should buy it with vista premium, 1gb ram, and intel pentium dual core.

I talked with an HP technician and found out that the c500t can support core 2 duo t5500 with a bios update. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, I can upgrade the hd to 120gb and ram to 2gb after buying it.

I just bought one for college, mainly because I'm worried about spending $1800 on a laptop only to have it stolen. The beauty of roommates (and their friends) that you don't know

I have the seutp you mentioned and I'm going to buy two, 1GB sticks of ram later today. It's not unusable with 1GB, but I'd rather have two gigs with Vista. I'm not going to need more then 80 gigs for now, so I'll leave the HD alone.

I have no idea about upgrading to the T5500, but if you find anything out shoot me a PM :)

That is correct, as the C500T uses a 945GML board according to HP Parts. This chipset is used under both Core Duo & Core 2 Duo (Socket M).

i would strongly recommend avoiding this model altogether, in terms of build quality and design it does not even light a candle up to compaq's offerings in the v3000, F500 and v6000 series...

The reason why I'm looking into buying this laptop is because I want to be able to do basic computing tasks. I'm not too concerned about build quality design so long as it can be portable and usuable. Plus, i want to buy my first laptop.
