    I made this acct to reply to this very helpful thread. I came into possession of a hand-me-down c700 with:
    celeron 1.7ghz cpu
    1GB (2x500mb) DDR2 200pin ram
    80 gb hdd
    Vista Basic 32-bit
    F.9 BIOS

    It could barely run, and was pretty much unusable, even as a netbook, in the state that I got it in.

    Was able to successfully upgrade to:
    Core 2 duo T9300 2.5ghz
    5GB (1x1gb , 1x4gb) DDR2 200pin 800mhz ram
    external 250gb hdd (330gb total)
    Windows 7 pro 64 bit (windows 10 free upgrade soon)
    F.35 BIOS

    I still plan on replacing the hard-drive to the 250gb samsung ssd for even more of a speed increase, but for now it runs much much better, night and day difference. It was slightly tough to find the 1x4gb ddr2 but it was worth it (found it on ebay for 50 bucks).

    I found that anything more that 1gb in the primary ram slot causes errors so I was able to find the 4gb in 1 chip to get it to 5gb, which is prob the max for this laptop.

    Bump up here

    I've just placed an order for a T8300 on Aliexpress. Only 11 bucks hehe.

    I hope I can bring that old laptop I had saved back to life.

    C757 here.

    Did the upgrade. PC is working perfectly! Had to update the BIOS to the F.35 version because the laptop wouldn't load with the F.21 version, but nothing else.

    Where did you get F35 bios from? Looks like F34 is the latest on the HP c700 page.
    I have sp48079 amongst my load of files, would this be it?

    I'm trying to install ssd drive with win xp today so a fast response would be very helpful. Cheers.

    Thanks bios all sorted.

    Well I have just fitted an SSD and I can't see any increase in speed at all.
    I don't see what people were banging on about, words like lighting fast, and rocket speed, boots in seconds, what a load of waffle!!!
    All I've done is waste my money.

    I think something is wrong with your notebook... Mine became really faster after upgrading to ssd. Boots in seconds, open browser and files instantly, etc... Obviously it does not help with video performance or softwares that demands heavy processing power.

    Maybe you should try formating your SSD, if you just cloned the previous HDD.

    Hello ,

    I have 761ES Compaq, even though the BIOS detects the RAM of 2X2GB (Hynix) i try to format but it keeps BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.When i take 1 RAM out, and MAX is 2GB then it continues.

    I have searched and there is a problem with this model.

    Can someone help me out ?

    I never got it to work with 4gb... Only 3gb (1+2). And only in a specific configuration.. I mean, if I switch the rams in the slots, it stops working...

    200 -> 266:

    [IMG]

    Thin orange line follows FS_B trace. Red line shows ideal spot to cut (I stabbed the board with a box cutter repeatedly, checking progress with an ohmmeter). Conveniently, there's a ground point right next to FS_B below cut. Green line shows points to bridge (may not be necessary? I did a quick test with FS_B floating and booted at 266FSB). Using a resistor to pull-down would be best. Otherwise, a blob of solder or conductive ink will do.

    Voila:
    [IMG]
    T6500 10.5x200=2100 -> 10.5x266=2800
    ddr2 333 -> 443

    One of my sticks couldn't handle it. Will have to reprogram spd to either increase latency and/or remove 333 table.

    Crucial stick is pretty impressive. Rated 333 5-5-5 and runs 443 5-5-5 just fine.

    Dropped VID from 1.15 to 0.975 :)

    update: not sure if I don't have a good connection to ground, but after prolonged suspend, it wakes up at 200fsb. Requires a full power down to go back to 266.

    I noticed the final F35 bios is missing the 1067a microcode. I found a blog post by donovan6000 ( http://donovan6000.blogspot.com/2013/06/insyde-bios-modding-cpu-microcodes.html) but it was taken private. I managed to use phoenix mod tool to pull the microcode, but wasn't sure if I could just inject additional microcodes beyond the existing ones, so I replaced two of them with the latest 1067a (it's platform 5,7 instead of 7 and is 2k in size instead of 1k). Updated the 10676 microcode as well just in case. Flashed it, but it didn't seem to change anything. Coretemp still gets stuck on a single snapshot. Still see ACPI errors in event viewer (assuming it's related to http://home.icequake.net/~nemesis/blog/index.php/archives/505/comment-page-1

    The good news though is that it seems to be sticking to 266fsb after prolonged suspend now. Maybe the liquid copper is making a better connection to ground now.

    Presario C700 series C777tu Insyde Bios

    After the cpu was upgraded to T8300 , the laptop sometimes cannot pass post on boot .It is intermittent.The issue is most probably the microcode.

    Please help me update the latest 10676 and 1067a microcode to the bios F.35 .

    The original BIOS is here: sp48079.exe

    Your help is greatly appreciated
