I turned it on one day when it was hibernated, it just came up with a black screen and turned off. When I try and turn it on nothing happens, no lights, nothing. When I plug in the charger the charging light comes on for 10 seconds and goes off. Hard reset wont work nor can I turn it on without the battery in. I contacted Microsoft and they said it has to be the hardware, however I am out of warranty and don't want to pay £16 just to troubleshoot. any ideas?

Hi XXsgtstifflerXX,
Have you tried using another Ac adapter since you mentioned the light indicator didn't stay on when it was plugged in?

I have recently changed my AC adapter because my last ones wire casing came off, This one has been fine for a while. It never showed any signs of breaking, I don't have another one to try atm!

Hmmmm well since the recently purchased adapter is doing the same thing it could be a hardware issue. Is your unit making any beep sounds or when you wiggle the ac adapter does it light up?

. There is no signs of life meaning fans, lights or anything, when I plug in the charger the light above lights up but not the one on the front. As I said its only on for 10 seconds.
Compaq Presario CQ-61 not turning on.
