Hi, i have a problem with my little brother notebook. :(
After he muted the sound and then unmuted it it does not play any audio trough the speakers.
Plugging a audio cable in the microfone port fixes the problem, but this is not a permanently fix.

I did a clean install to Windows 7 because he had the free upgrade but the problem still shows up.
I thinking it must be a driver related issue since its working perfect once you reformat.
I used the latest Windows 7 x86 drivers from the HP site.

Any hot tips on how to fix this?
Cant really reformat the OS every time this happens.

And using Fedora 12 does not have this problem.

We have the units listed below in the sig. My personal experience with these units, combined with other folks posts here at NBR, has led me to believe that some HP units are fairly sensitive to driver installation order. The audio functions and its correlation to the Quick Launch Buttons seem to be the most problematic. No guarantee, but try the following:

    Uninstall the QLBs
    Uninstall the Audio drivers
    Re-Boot

If you have something like CCleaner, run the registry portion.
    Re-BOOT

If you've just installed Win 7 and have not already done so, you might want to install the chipset drivers from here using the -overall command (i.e. start/run/setup.exe -overall). This will remove all the Intel drivers installed by Win 7 and replace them with the latest updates. Re-BOOT. Following the chipset driver install you should also consider installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager from HP here. This will improve the system performance and is often overlooked.

    Re-BOOT.
    Install the Audio driver

    Re-BOOT
    Install the QLBs

Re-BOOT …. and cross your fingers. I have also seen these start working correctly after a couple of re-boots. Strange but it is what it is.

If that fails to solve the issue, consider trying a vista driver for the QLBs.
