Is it possible to change compaq presario hard drive into a SATA, or make it read SATA hard drives, because i can't find a hard drive in IDE higher than 100GB. I'm looking for a 200GB one in IDE or a converter from IDE-SATA.

Don't think you can but I am not certain. I can tell you Hitachi HTS541616J9AT00 makes 160GB PATA. I have, RA 17ms read throughput 40MB/s burst 90MB/s

Even if there are IDE to SATA convertors since we are dealing with a laptop it wont be much use since you cannot fit the cable + HDD in the hard disk bay. Plus HP uses an adaptor to connect the HD to the motherboard. So, your only option would be to get as PATA(IDE) HD as powerpack suggested or if it isnt available where you live get an external USB/firewire HDD.

The Western Digital Scorpio 250gb 2.5" HD has a PATA, IDE and SATA version. Got a SATA for mine at Best Buy for $179.
