I just bought one of these and it does not play DVD properly when played through the optical drive it's very jerky and the sound doesn't work well, fine through the HDD. I have seen others work better than that. The RAM has been upgraded to 512k. Any ideas what is wrong with it?

Look up the DVD drive in Device Manager and make sure it's running in DMA mode and not PIO. If it's running in PIO mode that would explain the symptoms you described.

I checked device manager and BIOS and can not find where it tells the setting or gives an option to change it.

D'oh... I should have said check your IDE controllers in Device Manager, not the DVD drive.

Just checked it. It's in DMA if available but is currently running in PIO mode and I can't seem to change it from that panel. Is there any way to enable DMA?
