Whats everyone's opinion on this particular notebook? Build quality? Value? etc.
I plan on buying a cheapo to get me through my last year of college, then I'm going to plop down a couple grand and get a Merom when all the kinks are worked out.

If I get it, I'll probably wipe the drive as soon as I get home and do a fresh install of XP Pro. I prefer all of my computers be setup a specific way and I'm sure I'll never use a lot of the crap they put on there.

I would prefer the V3000t with the Core Duo. You can get it right around the same price except with 512MB of memory on HP.com.

Or the dv2000z/V3000z series with Turion X2, especially if you're on a budget. Nothing wrong with the V2000z series though, it's just that dualcore CPUs are nice to have. Worth the extra money? Up to you.
If you do go Intel as ZaZ suggests at least get the Core2Duo that's 64-bit capable, especially now that it looks like Vista is back on track. The price premium over AMD is rather high at the moment though and the C2D is more power hungry than the old 32-bit-only Duo so Intel's edge in battery life is diminished a bit.
