I have looked up both the motherboard (Wistron 30b5) and my laptop model but cannot find whether it supports dual channel ram. I have the Sempron CPU. I currently have 2x1gb on order but if it doesn't support dual channel then I will return it for a 1x2gb and keep a 512mb stick in the second slot.

While we are at it, does anyone know which processors could be used with this mobo?

    Any help would be appreciated!

It does support dual channel. 4GB (2x2GB) would work too. Pretty much any Turion TL series CPU should work. Flash in the latest BIOS first to maximize your odds of the BIOS recognizing newer CPU core steppings.

Another reason to flash in the latest BIOS: older BIOS revisions don't run the fan 24x7. Running the fan 24x7 is required to keep the defective NVIDIA chipset from failing. See here:

Thanks for the info! Would the CPU upgrade provide any noticeable difference in performance?

Depends on what you're doing. As a rule adding memory provides the best bang for the buck. If you're trying to watch HD H.264 video and it's stuttering then more CPU power is warranted.
