Hello,
I would like to ask if some body can help me out in deciding which laptop to buy. I would like to buy a multimedia laptop, so i can work with different programs, play some games, etc. These are the two choices that i am considering:
V4000T
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz) 2MB L2
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
128MB ATI MOBILITY(TM) RADEON(R) X700
1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG WLAN!
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
price 1300$
this is my favourable choice but i am concerned if the cpu is enough for example for games? should i take higher cpu?
V2000Z
AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-30 (1.6GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/productivity ports
1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
price 1075$
Obviously there is a 225$ price difference, different video cards, Memory on one is DDR2 the other DDR, and the processors are almost the same i guess.
can anyone suggest which system is better related to performance and cost-benefit dimension.
Thank you!
p.s. what do productivity ports on the second video card exacly are for. sorry for the dumb question.

If you're going to play games, the V4000t is your ticket - the V2000z has integrated graphics with shared memory, no good for games. The 128MB X700 in the V4000t is about six times as fast as the Xpress 200M graphics in the V2000z.
The "productivity ports" option adds a Firewire 400 port, 6-in-1 media reader, and an extra USB port. Worth the $25 if you ask me.
Of course, you have to take in the size difference between these two notebooks as well.
If you want better suggestions, I suggest completing the FAQ in the hardware forum. Because, right now I don't have a lot of information about what you want and therefore cannot give you a recommendation. -
When gaming the card does most of the heavy lifting. Most CPUs will do. The v4000t is a good budget machine and would be ny choice.

Also check out the Acer Travelmate 4400. Turion CPU, 15.4" widescreen, 64MB X700, 100GB 5400RPM HD, only 512MB RAM but that's easily upgradable, about $1100.
