Old processor was a T2370 upgraded to T7500. I grabbed the chip from pricewatch for 180.00. I have already upgraded to 2gb memory as well. I have an overall 20% performance increase which for 200.00 total in upgrades is a significant increase. I used Passmark PerformanceTest 6.1 to run benchmarks on the completely stock system and then with the memory increase and finally with the processor upgrade.

On a little side note this processor is the same they offer in a 2000 dollar MacBook pro. This is my little sleeper laptop. Now dont get me wrong. Im not saying that this laptop is even anywhere in the league of a MacBook pro, but for 600.00 total (including upgrades) this laptop is killer.

The install was fairly straightforward. Lots of screws, but there are only 2 sizes of screws so its easy to keep track of them. Lots of little electrical connectors, but because the wires are already bent where there supposed to go there is little confusion there. Anyone that has a good understanding of computers can tackle this install, take your time and pay attention to what your doing. If you have never taken apart a laptop they use threadlock on ALL the screws so using the proper precision phillips screwdriver (amazingly the only tool you need) and make sure your pressing down hard and turn firmly, if you strip the head of 1 screw it went from a cool project to a headache.

You can IM me if you have any questions, couldn't find the PLL, I didn't know where to look and I needed my computer back so I had to put it back together tonight. You MUST use new thermal compound on the new processor, buy good stuff. The keyboard is held in by screws not by clips, DO NOT PRY ON THE KEYBOARD, same thing with the speakers and the power button bar, above the keyboard. My memory is now running at 800fsb which is a significant speed increase. No drivers or other software is needed, at least with my processor, pretty much just plug and play. The computer starts a couple seconds quicker and the system is very quick and zippy. I have only had the laptop for about 4 months and surprisingly enough the heatsink fins by the exterior of the computer (where you can feel air coming out when the fan is on) was pretty clogged up with debris. So if you notice your C700 getting a little hot or if you have had it for a while take a little toothbrush or similar apparatus and a vacuum to suck the debris out instead of using compressed air to blow it back into the innards of the lappy.

A full day of computing and I can report no problems with xp or my vista64 bit install (i'm dual booting). The laptop bottom feels cooler to the touch as well. And I found out my wifes acer (wal-mart special baby!) laptop takes socket p as well. So she will be receiving the t2370 out of my laptop. This will be an excellent selling point when I tell my wife how much I spent on my processor, which I have not done yet, wish me luck

I just upgraded this from a T7500 to a T9300 about 2 week ago and a few days later I got a virus which I wasn't able to nuke, so I formatted all the drives and did a recovery off the disc, which meant getting all new updates for windows and all new drivers updates for the hardware.
To my surprise my performance was remarkably noticeable from before the recovery where there was no real change after the upgrade.
I didn't do any tests because I wasn't expecting much of a change in performance from 2.2 to 2.5 and performance isn't the reason why I upgraded rather I wanted to run cooler and saving juice wouldn't hurt either.

So to the grub bile slime that nuked my system, thanks you did me a favour YOU IDIOT!

yeah I upgraded for the extra 3mb cache and to have the 800fsb. The actual speed .5ghz doesn't really do much for me. But the other features of the processor allow my comp to fly

I have a C717NR w/ the T2310 processor. I assume I would be able to also upgrade to the T7500 processor. I don't have a clue what it would do officially specs wise, but i'm sure it'd be a huge upgrade from what I have now.....any chance on you selling this chip?

For the cpu-z i saw that the processor only running Core Speed 1596.1MHz, is that you running battery mode on capture the screen?

yeah I'm running it underclocked keeping the temps down as I work in a hot shop all day and don't want to get things too hot. But it will run 2.2, well actually like 2.1485 or something like that

I'm not sure why your asking about the northbridge??? The processor upgrade will work, trust me.

umm not for sure, in theory it should, but I have heard of some bugs with the higher end processors. I think thats a little too much "processor" for this laptop though. I went for the cheapest processor that had 4mb L2 and allowed the FSB to run at 800.

Would you be kind to tell me what spec code and stepping your T7500 is?
    Intel list both T7500 with:
    SLA44, E1 stepping
    SLAF8, G0 stepping
    wich is it?

Excellent thread. I love my c762nr. Incredible deal. I remember when I posted about it this time last year, everyone was like, "not a good deal. same laptop's been around since last year for the same price on and off". And sure, that's true. C2D is getting long in the tooth, but it's still the best there is more or less, and it's still more than fast enough. I run a 4ghz c2d as my desktop, and even the dinky t2370 is more than adequate for a laptop.

Last year I said I was going to see if these laptops supported 800fsb, and got a resounding NO with no proof. It's real good to see they are indeed capable. I might try a pinmod to 800fsb, but I'm pretty sure the multi would just get locked down at 6x, so 6x200=1200, a nasty downgrade from 1.73, despite the faster bus. If not though, I'd be racing at 2.6ghz, which I'm pretty sure it can handle with the nominal vid, since I'm running 1.73ghz @ minimum vid right now. And even if it's not totally stable, as long as it'll boot into windows stably, I can use rmclock and drop down the multi.

And that's another plus about these laptops. The newer chipsets aren't supported by rmclock, and it looks like development is dead. So this being the last gen supported is huge.

I definitely don't mind the smaller cache of these pdc's, so I might end up just grabbing a 800fsb pdc, if the price is <$50. Would have to change the spd on my ram and see if it'll run 800mhz, which would be awesome

If anyone wants to try to pinmod a t2370 to 800fsb, I'd LOVE to see your results.

Thank you for your post. It was very helpful in upgrading my own C700. I upgraded the processor to T7300 which was basically the same as the T7500 but it was 2.0 not 2.2 and I got a used one off of eBay for $86.00. I also upgraded my memory to 2 gigs. I was very careful in making sure I knew where everything and every screw went so when I put it back together, it worked the first time and it runs like a dream! I think the only thing I will do next is get a better HD. I am going to upgrade to the 500 gig 7400 speed HD or the biggest one this thing will take. Again thanks for the information.

i opened my c700 laptop to look for clock generator,
and the clock generator IC is SLG8SP512T

anyone tried using T9500 cpu with C700 notebook yet?
I am considering it for upgrade, but afraid of compatibility.
HP support staff is not helpful.

If other t9xxx works, I'd imagine t9500 would as well. Only problem I could see is if the microcode isn't supported. Some bioses will still let it work, some won't. Try and see?

I might try and pinmod tonight if I feel up to it. It'd be insane if meroms didn't lock down at 6x like yonahs.
