I'll be buying my first notebook in a couple of days and I'm thinking of getting this Compaq. I won't be using it for gaming, downloading, or burning cd's so the Compaq sounds perfect. Right now, it's $879.99 at Best Buy and there are $180 in rebates, which reduces the price to $700. Is this a pretty good deal for this computer?

I'm wondering how hot these computers get. It has AMD Turion 64 so I know it will be warmer than a Centrino. I was originally planning on buying the HP L2000 but after a test run at Costco and the incredible heat I felt on my left palm, I decided against it. I may have to order the v2311 online because it looks like most of the stores in my area are out of stock. It will be hot enough in the area I'll be moving to, I don't need a blazing hot notebook. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Your gaming requirement concerns me, the video card is not good for medium to high end gaming at all. Otherwise it is a nice deal.

I won't be using it for gaming at all. Just using it for internet and Office applications. Thanks for the feedback.
