This morning, my compaq presario v6000 stopped turning on. The only thing that I've found weird is that the light indicator of the charger (on the right) still turns on blue. But still, no power. Also, whenever I press the power button, I see a blue light that flashes three times on the battery indicatior.

The first thing I tried was connect the charger without the battery to see if it would turn on. Still, nothing. The only thing I see that lights up is the charger light, and the battery light flashing three times. Is there anything else that I can do to fix this problem? Any response will be appreciated, thanks.

An exact model number would be greatly appreciated so we can have the exact specs of your computer. However, it sounds to me like you have the old nVidia problem. Basically, your GPU has become detached from the computer's motherboard and needs to be reballed. Calling HP is pretty much useless as they will want you to send in your computer to have the motherboard replaced which will cost about $400. In short, it's time for a new computer.

Try pulling the cmos batery for 10 - 30 seconds. Doesn't work often but I have had it work a few times depending on the problem. If you do get it to boot again you need to update the bios as the updated buos help prevent problems with the V2xxx , V6xxx and V9xxx series.

IF all else fails try baking the motherboard. It will at least buy you a few days/weeks or months to find a replacement laptop as all of the 2000, 6000 and 9000 series with nvidia integrated video were prone to failure rates I've never seen on a laptop before.

Is your diagnosis based on information specific to HP or the v6000 laptop?

it really doesn't sound like 'the old nvidia problem' to me, most people see artifacts and signs of failure before their entire motherboard fails if it does fail at all...

Usually motherboards with bad graphics will still start. Baking electronics is a LAST RESORT.

You should try taking the battery out, unplugging it and holding the power button for a long time... like 30 seconds.
BIOS reset is a good idea too, I'm not sure how to do it though.

Recently I saw a compaq start up perfectly without a hard drive, have an IDE hard drive installed backwards, and not start or even light up whatsoever even with the hard drive removed.
It had a reset button on the bottom. This fixed it immediately, hard drive installed correctly and worked perfectly.
