My laptop screen randomly dims to the point where i cant even see what its displaying. I've been using a monitor to use the laptop. Anyone know what this could be? Loose connection? Bad display?

The backlight can be replaced, but very few repair shops do this. Are you sure it's not the inverter? If there is a faint display, it could be just the inverter, which is easy to replace.

If it's the backlight like you say, most people have to purchase a new screen. Unless you find a repair shop that knows how to replace a backlight - which might be very hard to do.

If you need a new screen try http://www.ebay.com or http://www.screentekinc.com - good luck.

Unfortunately, I dont think anyone can say with certanity if the problem is due to the invertor or the backlight. The invertor basically helps in powering the backlight...if the invertor is bad then the backlight wont work, so I would recommend trying to replace the invertor first and then if that doesnt work then you will need to replace the backlight/screen.
