Hi, I just joined the forum. The thing is that I'm thinking about buying a laptop and after looking for a while in the web I came upto the Compaq R3000T model, which looks like the best quality/price option to me. Specially because it's one of the few that offer a 128MB video card. I was hoping if anyone that owns this model or know about it can tell me about their experiences with it.
Have you had any problems so far?
Do u recomend the H/T technology?
Do u recomend the brightview option?
Does the Radeon 9600 video card works fine with high quality games?
At last, is there any significant quality difference between Hp and Compaq notebooks (I know they fusioned, you never know...)?
    Cheers,
    Patox

First off HP/Compaq model's and parts are exactly the same! They have the same parts in them made by the the people so if you feel safe with one feel safe with the other. A cpu using HT will use slightly more power then a non-HT cpu but just a little. I'd recommend HT unless battery life is a very important issue for you. If it was then you should consider another system because this computer will really only go 2.5-3.5 hours on batteries. As for the video card I have the 128MB radeon 9600 this is a great card and It's running Unreal 2004 great! Very fast FPS and settings all on high. Doom 3 is more challenging but looks great and runs smoothly. I think Its running on the Med settings. As for birghtview I've never seen it my self for this model but everyone says its got much better contrast and color, so we all recommend going to your local computer store to see a brightview vs a non-brightview and decide your self. I think I wish I had gotten brightview for the low price of 25$ I also recommend not getting the any res. higher then 1280X800 it will make things way to small! and your games to run at your lcd's normal res will need to be this size. the higher resolutions will make it so your card can't handle them and you will have to lower the settings. Personally I wish I had gotten brightview but to be honest the normal lcd is still very nice! very nice!
Lastly the build quality on this system is great! it feels very solid, i've had no problems. Also a nice performance gain you can get is by ordering 2X512MB ram with your model you will have dual channel memory which doubles your memory speed. It will go from 333MHz to 666MHz. just something to consider if your going to get a custom model. Please let us know if you have more questions. Don't be shy to ask.

Thanx a lot for your quick and detailed response. I think I'll go for the H/T and the brightview screen.
I don't know if you can help me with this, but do you know if the warranty can be transfered to another country?
In my case I live in Chile, South America...

Anyway thanx a lot, and if someone has another opinion please post it.

Sense warrenties in other countries is a problem that dosen't come up very often I'd say the best place for an answer is to call HP or use there e-mail support they reply with in 1 hour. That is my favorite method of support.
