Anyone have any experience with Compaq r3000z. Got a good sale going on at Office Depot. $600, after 230 in rebates, in base configuration, 256mb, dvd-rom, 40gb hard drive and 32mb nvidia gforce card. I think you order at the store kiosk, so its completely upgradeable. Then they ship it to you. I have 2199us right now, but would love to get the 12 cell battery, widescreen and mobile athlon 64. Plus I know dell is selling 60gb Hitachi 7200rpm hard for $130. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Good choice. There are lots of neat upgrades. Definitely get 802.11g (very hard to upgrade later), consider Bluetooth (also hard to upgrade later), consider more memory (it's picky, get Crucial/Micron memory if you upgrade on your own), consider the screen upgrades (I really like my 1680x1050 res screen, some people think text is too small at that res and don't like Large Fonts). The 12 cell battery is great, battery life is very good (figure 3-4 hours of moderate use). DVD movies look great on the 15.4" widescreen. Wireless range is outstanding. The only thing it's not good for is modern 3D games due to the weak GPU but it's great for getting work done.
