Well ..I am about to take the plunge and replace my ailing NEC Versa. Before I do however, I would like to see additional feedback regarding the AMD Sempron ( and the notebook itself for that matter) and it's place in the CPU food chain. I like the features of the 4010 for the money ..and I feel that it would be ideal for my application ...that is word processing, excel work ...minor publisher work ...email ..playing music ... **I have been looking for awhile now ....and feel the Compaq is very good for the money ...approx. $ 1,000 CDN
Thank you in advance for any feedback you have regarding this purchase decision ..

The R4000 is a very good choice, but I recommend spending the extra 50 dollars or so to upgrade to the lowest Athlon 64. This is because the Athlon 64 has extra cache and is 64 bit compatible. These features should make your notebook last longer than having a notebook with a Sempron.
But back to your question, here are the efficiency/performance orders of common CPUs:
Celeron D-->Sempron-->Athlon XP-->Pentium 4-->Celeron M-->Athlon 64/Turion 64-->Pentium M
Somebody please correct me if they think otherwise. -
Celeron(128K)/Celeron D/Athlon XP(Sempron Socket A)/Celeron M/Sempron(socket 754 & 939)/Pentium 4/Turion64/Pentium M/Athlon64...
Here's links to a couple of Sempron reviews...

I'd say it's more like:
Celeron D-->Celeron M-->Sempron-->Pentium 4-->Pentium M-->Athlon 64/Turion 64
And the P4 is a really, really bad idea for notebooks due to its extremely high heat.
Really, the only reason to consider an Intel CPU is when you can't find the configuration you want with an AMD CPU. Unfortunately that's a HUGE problem, but now that AMD is suing Intel for their brass-knuckle marketing tactics (which should keep Intel's usual threats to OEMs at a minimum) and AMD's production capacity is ramping up it's likely that this situation will get much better over the next several months. -
i certainly appreciate the great feedback everyone. the links are very helpful.
indeed, i do like the configuration of the Compaq R4010CA ...it offers alot for the money ...and i think the build is durable. for sure no matter what i decide ..i will provide feedback on the machine ..
thanks all
