Hello,
I am currently shopping around for a low priced notebook and the R4025 has caught my eye as it appears to have the performance and come in under my budget of $1,500 Canadian.
The main purpose for the machine is for portable gaming, currently World of Warcraft. Battery life is not a major issue as the longest it would have to survive would be a 45 minute train ride playing a DVD.
I am an advanced user, so the machine will be pushed to it's limits and then some, so performance is a must. Linux compatibility is a plus as I would like to run dual boot.
This will be my first venture into portable computers so your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordie

Well, the graphics performance of the Compaq is decent. The 200m is not the most powerful graphics chip in the market. That crown belongs to the 6800/6800U used in the Dell 9300/XPS2. So, if your first priority is gaming performance then look elsewhere.
If you are looking at all round performance then the Compaq is a good choice. -
I have been looking at many laptops for awhile now. I like the quality of the compaq's construction..so I think it's a good choice for durability. I am looking at the 4010CA to be honest ..as I like the price ...and having read many reviews, the sempron 3200 + does'nt have a bad reputation.
I have looked at many manufacturers ..such as Dell, LG, ACER, Toshiba ...some refurbed stuff...even seriously considered taking advantage of a significant Alien Laptop Rebate a few weeks back. **Although I haven't physically seen an Alien Laptop. The LG LS50a looks pretty **very stylish.. but has absolutely terrible sound ..and no DVD R/RW ...256 MB ...and comes in around $ 1350 CDN. I bailed on this machine ...as you can get better...and for less $$ in the Compaq.
I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the Acer's ...thought would be same realm as their cards and boards ...but for sure not worth the hard earned money. Looked and felt like cheap build.
..The Toshiba almost had me ..**M40X. Good build ...nice sound ...good screen ...I guess I just want to save those few extra hundred dollars ...and get quite comparable ...and on many levels ...the better Compaq 4010.
As mentioned above from miner ...the ATI graphics chip isn't powerful ..but does have it's own dedicated memory ..and won't be a major drag on your system memory. I agree though ...for sure you may have to curb your expectations for gaming on this machine.
