    Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario 12XL300 Notebook, which is about 3 yrs old, and I'm pretty sure that these models have been discontined...My present issue is with Compaq SoftPaq (SP 18740.exe) not installing or doing anything when clicking on the .exe (with WinXP SP2 installed).

This SP 18740 is to eliminate the 'yellow exclamation' mark which appears in the Device Manager----->Serial Device area...Compaq in the past said that having the 'yellow exclamation mark' being present when upgrading to WinXP, would not cause any performance effects on your system, but is mainly a cosmetic fix...lol This SP 18740 installed perfectly on SP1...

However, I have just upgraded to WinXP SP2, and (at least the new HP Business Support Center) is much easier to navigate in finding these 'elusive SP's'...so I was easily able to download this SP 18740.exe, but when clicking on it....nothing happens!!!

I have searched in vain on the HP Support site, but have found nothing concrete to assist me...My colleagues @other Tech Forums suggested that I look here for a possible solution...

Thanks for your time in advance

P.S. My notebook is running very smoothly with no major issues with SP2 (Express Version 92MB) installed from WUv5...but I'm rather curious as to why this SP 18740 will not work on SP2...

P.S.S. I always search the forums thoroughly prior to posting a new [help] topic...especially being new.
