What type of RAM does the Compaq V2000 require? I have about decided on custom ordering this model w/Pentium M 715A (1.5GHz), 256 RAM, BrigthView WXGA, 60 GB HD (4200 rpm), DVD/CD-RW, XP Home. Total Cost: $934.26 w/education discount and rebates. It was $75 more for 512 RAM (2x256), so I want to order a 256 RAM chip from somewhere like Newegg and save some $. I would like to order the RAM the same time I order the computer.
I have been racking my brain deciding on the best laptop for me. I like the physical size and cost of this model. I am surprised this model is not more popular and that there are not other systems available with the 14" WXGA in this price range. After looking at other screen sizes this seem like the perfect size for mobility with a decent size screen. The 15.4 WXGA desktop replacements seem too big for a mobile notebook and the 12" screens just seem too small.
My main needs are Word Processing/spreadsheets, DVD movies, photo viewing with minor editing, Internet and no gaming. I do plan to setup a wireless network at home mainly to share Internet connection. I debated on ordering it with the Celeron M processor to save another $125-150, but was afraid I would regret that. If anyone can explain to me how the Celeron M would be good enough for my needs, then please do so. It would be ideal if I could add all the top features, such as a faster HD and processor, etc, but $ is tight and this is the best system I have come up with that I liked both the size, screen quality, and cost.
I originally planned to purchase a laptop costing $600-700, but after looking at many of these models I realized that I would regret it. So now my goal is to keep it under $1000 and get something I will be satisfied with. Any other similar notebook suggestions that meet my needs would be greatly appreciated.
