Hi my Girlfriend bought a customized Compaq V2000 from their website with a Centrino processor.
For some reason, the laptop would automatically shut off while she's using the internet or typing on word. I don't believe it's being overheated or anything. Now when it starts up to window, it would shut off and restart again.
If anyone know what's wrong with this laptop, please let me know, I would really appreciate it. It's still under the 1 year factory warranty.

a friend of mine had the exact same problem with his v2000 that he bought from Costco. it would only happen on battery. he finally exchanged it for a new one; just got it this week and he said no problems so far. we tried to troubleshoot the problems, but eventually gave up and since Costco has a 6 month return policy, he just got a new one.

does it happen on a/c, battery, or both?

It shut down when the A/C cord is plugged in. Do you think it could be anything else? Thank you for your reply.

Well, I'm far from an expert on these sort of things but maybe you have some faulty ram? Are you sure its not overheating? Maybe she is blocking the vents somehow. They say never to use a notebok on a soft surface like a bed.

I second this ram fault i also frequent the house of help forums and a couple of threads/probelms ive read were the computer shutting off or turning on with no display, however working when they replaced the oem ram. Maybe in your case its opposite your oem ram already came bad.

Thanks everyone for your help, but if it's RAM that's at fault, wouldn't it happen constantly or everytime it's turned on? It only happens once a while but most of the time it's normal, even when we play game on it. I don't think it's being over heated because she has a 12 cell battery so it gives it a little vent surface off the desk.
